Those of you that have parted out a B6, was it worth it?

I'm going back and forth on how to proceed with my 2005 B6 S4. Coming up on 120k it has lots of clunks/squeaks/rattles and little problems. Catalytic converters on the downpipes have gotten trashed from being lowered and the honeycomb started rattling recently one one. I replaced nearly all the timing parts about 45k ago and the engine runs strong and doesn't consume much oil (dipstick will normally be at the 'min' mark by the time I change the oil at 3k). Body has some hail damage on the main panels and I honestly can't imagine getting much for a trade in. I have quite a few aftermarket parts which would be better sold by themselves. Stasis/Ohlin MS suspension, ultrasport front bumper, BBS RGR wheels, JHM ECU (doesn't seem easy to sell due to immobilizer), JHM shifter trio, Clutchmasters billet steel flywheel with JHM stage 4 clutch, 034 motor mounts, and probably a bunch of other stuff I'm forgetting about.

Seems like the easy parts to sell are the engine, seats, mirrors (passenger side has a slight ding), and door blades (driver's rear door blade looks like water got inside and expanded so it doesn't fit perfectly). After that, what other parts are worth any money? I have a full time job and it's not worth my time to sell every $5 or $10 part especially if they take time to pull and ship.

What other parts are sought after? Those of you who have bought cars to part out, how much have you paid and did you make enough for it to be worth your time? You are welcome to PM me prices if you don't want to post them on the forum.

Thanks in advance for any input.

Yeah youll sell pretty easy the big stuff like you said seats mirrors exhaust etc but if you really want to make money on part out youd have to sell most of the little stuff too, it takes time and dealing with weird people that want you to ship them 10$ bolt accross the country for 5$. Id say, find another clean one with blown engine and swap the motor then sell whatever is left and junk yard the rest. Thats what id do

I just don't see how a full blown part out would bring anywhere near what you could get for a full car, especially if you don't plan to sell like you say every little thing. I've seen almost stock cars with similar mileage and some issues(body and tons of leaks) sell for 7-9k. Could a part out, and I'm talking about full part out, bring anywhere near let's say even six thousand?

I don't see why a full blown part out wouldn't bring in $10K but that would involve a lot of effort stripping the interior, engine, tranny and most exterior parts too. That being said @tmorgan4 it looks like you have a lot of good bits on your car, I'm sure if you try to sell it as a whole you'll get a good price for it from someone who wants a B6 in decent shape to improve on. You've done the timing chain which is a big plus, and 120k miles isn't much, I have 139k on my 2004 and I've seen s4's with 150k miles selling for $7k easy, usually to buyers who are enthusiasts and are looking out for exactly that car.

Do not trade it in! You will never get your asking price! Post an ad and be patient, you'll get a decent price and you won't have to go through the effort of taking apart your pride and joy.

If you don't have the time , or the space to store a car for 6+ months(part outs don't happen in a month)
it's not worth it , just sell it whole.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. It seems like every time I look at the classifieds there were cars in far better condition selling for $5-7k. I'm not sure if resale value has dropped lately or whether the cars I've looked at have been priced lower than they should be. I try to be completely transparent about all problems during a sale and it's difficult to hand something off that you know has issues but I sometimes forget anyone buying an Audi/VW with 117k miles is probably expecting to fix a few things.

Mine are selling from 8-12 depending the condition... most don't have the timing chain components replaced. Which I believe to be a huge selling point.

Mine has 122k all service done and overall clean condition. Plan on selling for 10.5k which is fair for what you will get
