    At a loss...P2016 code

Alright, before I get flamed on there being a bunch of threads out there on the shitty intake manifold..let me explain. Got a P2016 code, "intake manifold runner position sensor/switch circuit low bank 1". I had no other symptoms of the actual mechanics of the manifold being bad. So I talked to an Audi service manager and was advised that the sensor that monitors where the flaps are can go bad, and of course the sensor is integrated into the whole manifold so I need to replace the whole thing.

So I just got done swapping over the new manifold. Start the car up and get the same P2016 code. The likelihood of this sensor being bad off the shelf is slim, so my question is what other things should I be looking for? A bad plug, bad wiring harness, a fuse?? I'm at a loss right now so any help would be appreciated.

As a point of reference it's a 2009 a4 and I'm getting no other fault codes, only this one.

Well I'm not much help but I'll bump the thread for ya. I had a P2015 (not 2016) and replaced the manifold and my problem went away.

-Did you clear the codes? (or is it a permanent code that will require you to drive for a bit to clear itself?)

-Did you do the adaptation on the new manifold? I have zero vag com experience, fumbled my way to the adaptation screen and tried to get it to work. Never really got anything that said adaptation complete, but the car seemed to run fine. So I considered it complete:P

The flap is moved using an electrically controlled, vacuum operated actuator (from what I remember). I think VCDS can cycle the flap and read the sensor to see if it moves. You could then visually see if its moving at well. I haven't looked in this module for all settings.

So I did clear the previous codes and they popped back up once I re-started the car. I've driven around for about 50 miles since I did the replacement.

I have not done any adaptation for the new manifold. I don't have vag com so I could either find someone in the area or take it to Audi. Im assuming the adaptation is necessary?

You're correct that the flap works off a vacuum operated actuator. Funny thing is when I took the old one off, the actuator works fine (tested the vacuum portion of it anyway). That's why I know there's nothing mechanically wrong so I'm not sure if it's a coding issue or an electrical issue.

Just from what I've read on the boards, it sounds like the adaptation is necessary. My maintenance manual also said it was necessary. I don't know what the result is if you don't do it though.
