Hi All - Now that the weather has cooled off a bit in Chicago, I've been paying a bit more attention to my timing, and was wondering what other numbers people were seeing. Details on the car:
2012 S4 6MT
GIAC Stage 2 w/AWE pulley
AMS Boost Cooler
ECS intake (can't spell it... It's the full one with the carbon fiber box)
Running on straight 93, or 93 and whatever was left over of my 93/E85 mix from last time (usually around E30-E35 at the time it was filled)
All numbers are coming from my P3 gauge.
On the pump tune I'm seeing a peak of 12-14 degrees, which seems like it might be a bit low from some of the searching I've been doing. This is usually from the upper RPM range in 1st-3rd... It'll start at around 10 or so and slowly build up to the peak. Now, don't get me wrong, the car absolutely feels strong, especially in the sub 60 degree weather we've been seeing recently (feels like boost season!), but I'm wondering if there's a little more timing being left on the table.
I would wonder if it were pulling somewhere due to gas, ignition components, etc, but if I run the race map with an E85/93 mix (5 gal of E85 a and the rest 93), I'm seeing peak timing of around 27 or 28, so it seems like the car is certainly capable of hitting higher numbers. Running the E85 mix on the pump map doesn't give me any higher numbers than on straight 93. Not unexpected, but thought I'd mention it to rule out bad gas.
I know that ideally I should get some logs going, but my only non-work laptop went down recently and I haven't had the time to fix/replace, so wanted to hear a bit about what others are seeing on the pump tune, since maybe I just need to adjust my expectations. Any chance I just drove it too easy during the adaptation period?
