    Angry How to completely remove drivers air vent B8.5

    Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Need to get the entire vent out. How to disconnect power wires? Need to get the vent out to realign slats. Impossible to do with vent dangling. Thanks!

    Pull the lower knee kick panel and you should see the connector for the lights on the vent. I did this recently to install/uninstall a P3 gauge from my old A4. You might be able to see it if you pull the side fuse panel as well

    I could prob unhook that way. Not sure I'd be able to reconnect it though. Do not want to pull knee plate. I can hear the rattles already.

    I realigned the flaps with the wire still attached.

    It was a bitch but totally worth it.

    Try angling the vent. It will align the silver piece better.

    The gecko will have to hold the slats until I find the patience to get those metal bars attached again. What a pain.

    Is there not a connector for the wires right at the vent? My B8 4 and B8.5 5 have one. It's less than a minute job to have the whole vent out of the dash.

    B8 does not have a wire to the vent.

    B8.5 does.

    It just controls the lighting on the dial.

    B8 does have wire. But it unclips from the vent itself.

    Strange that every B8 and B8.5 has a plug for the wire at the vent besides the B8.5 4.

    Anybody have any success assembling the vent slats and 2 metal brackets as functioning unit? Any tips?

    I was installing rear view camera and had to pull the dash apart. The vent just kinda fell apart into many pieces. I spend an hour trying to assemble it with no result.
    My slats are limp now , using "gecko fix" right now.

    I'm having trouble with the kick panel removal to do this. I took the 3 8mm bolts out and it won't come out for some reason. It will be difficult to get my P3 in and the suspension wiring if I can't do this.

    You need to pull the panel towards you, after removing the 3 screws there are only clips remaining on top and bottom of panel

    My B8 had a connector right at the vent, like you said simple unplug and you have the entire vent out of the car. I have since upgraded to b8.5.......and will be looking to install my P3........I sure hope it is the same...
