    Continental SureContact RX Tires

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Has anyone purchased the Continental SureContact RX tires? They look like the DWS06, but they're only sold at TireMerchant & NTB Stores. They have a buy two get two free deal right now and I need to buy some new tires. My buddy is the store manager at my local NTB so he'll make sure the install is done correctly without damaging my wheels.

It's $768 installed for four 255/45/20 tires, road hazard, alignment w/ 1 year unlimited mileage warranty, lifetime balancing & rotation, and free repairs if they pick up a nail or anything

That is a screaming good deal. I don't know much about these tires, but the reviews seem positive. Looks like you're conceding maximum grip and road feel for all-weather confidence and tread life. If those characteristics - along with budget - are your primary concerns, I can't imagine you'd find a better tire. Good luck.

I ordered them and they'll be in Friday. I'm taking the car in next Sunday to have them installed. The specs are the same as the DWS06 and the thread looks the same. The only difference is the DWS have "DWS" on the thread and these have some lines. I researched them online and most of the info I found is on a BMW forum, but the reviews are all good.
My Q5 has Nitto Motivo's on it now and they last about 14k miles.

Let me know how these tires work out, that is a hell of a price.

If they are anything like the DWS06 tires get them, I have the DWS06 on our SQ5 and I love them.

Two seemingly identical tires could have been made using the same mold, but most assuredly, their compounds will be different.
How do their specs compare (UTQG, mileage, etc)?

The tires are on and they ride great. They're go smooth on the highway and take turns well too. I'm going to increase the tire pressure a little bit to 38psi and they should handle even better. $768.51 out the door after tax for the tires, lifetime balancing and rotation, road hazard, 1 year unlimited mileage alignment, and free plugs if the tires pick up anything such as a nail..

I filled the tires to 38psi and they feel good in the turns. What psi is everyone running on their Q/SQ5 with 20" wheels?

41 F&R like the sticker says.

The sticker on mine doesn't say 41 psi. I think it says 32. I'll have to check it tonight.

SQ5 is 41. Other Q5s may be different but 9psi seems like a lot of difference for the same wheel/tire combo.

You want to go by what's in your manual and not the sticker (which is max load) as your starting point.

I think most people are running somewhere in between the SQ5 and Q5 recommendations. I'm at 36 psi now but am running a wider tire so have lower pressure requirements.

i've been running 33-35psi on my 3.0T with the v-spoke 20" wheels. not sure why an SQ5 should run 8psi higher. in fact, the v-spokes are available as options in both the 3.0T (black optics) and the SQ5.

hmm...maybe if i up the pressure to 35-38psi, i'll get better gas mileage? suggestions, anyone?

I am running the 41f/40r as the tire pressure label says to run. I also watch the wear pattern on the tires and adjust from there, if I see the tire isn't wearing fully to the edge I will reduce the pressure by 1psi until I get a full even tire wear across the tire.

I'm fairly certain the difference in tire pressure recommendations is due to the top speed differences. The Q5 is limited to 130 mph and the SQ5 is 155 mph from the factory.

I've been told by a few people to run the psi at 80% of the tires max psi. That would be 41 psi (if I round it up). The dealership normally sets it at 34-35 psi. I called Audi customer service about the difference in the manual and they couldn't tell me why there was such a big difference for the same size tires on the Q5 and SQ5. Below 35 psi it doesn't take turns well.

so i assume there would be no safety issues with running the 3.0T tire pressure in the high-30s psi. i'm looking to get better gas mileage out of this thing. on trips b/w SF and LA, i top out at ~25mpg. i can do slightly better if i set cruise at 70mph, but no one drives at the speed limit, esp not on that stretch of the 5!

Yeah, as long as you're not exceeding the max inflation for the tire you should be good.

See this table from Tire Rack on tire pressure adjustments based on vehicle top speed. There's probably some additional variables in play like HP that led Audi to their recommended pressures.

How are you liking the tires now? Has anyone else purchased the Surecontacts? I was recently going to purchase the Continental Purecontacts until I called Merchants Tire for a quote and they mentioned the same deal BarryT82 got - the only difference is my tire size is 245/45R-17. Since this tire is only available to certain retailers, there isn't as much information as your more popular tires, so curious to know how they are holding up over time. Thanks.
