ECU vs TCU tune -if you had to pick, which would you choose?

    Serious question.....

So I recently had the 35,000 mile service on my '14 S6. I always put the ECU into stock mode when taking it in for service. My dealer never goes near my OBD port, but I still put it into stock. I have discovered that driving with a stock ECU and a flashed TCU is more enjoyable than a tuned ECU with stock TCU. The TCU tuning makes for a much more lively and dynamic car, especially at "normal" speeds that we drive most of the time. Basically, you can enjoy the benefits of the TCU tune more of the time than you can the ECU tune. Stock ECU with flashed TCU is a lot of fun IMO.

    Thoughts????

so why flash the ECU to stock but leave the TCU flashed? wont that still flag your car under a td1 scan?

I do the same, so far no TD1 leaving the TCU tune in place before service.

Did not notice much on the TCU, but the ECU made a difference - Midrange Power

The TCU tune in drive just holds the gears a little longer. The TCU tune in sport, IMO, held the gears a lot longer prior to upshifting, and downshifted more aggressively.

The TCU tune compliments the ECU tune. By itself on the stock software, it's a nice but not mind blowing upgrade. The ECU tune, on the other hand, TRANSFORMS the car.

Yes, I would agree with this. My point was more that the TCU upgrade made driving in all situations more enjoyable, while the ECU upgrade, while transformational, can't be used as much of the time.

I think it depends where you live and what roads you drive on. I rev the car out at WOT every time I drive here in Las Vegas. I know that this would be next to impossible in some busier CA areas with narrow roads.

I wish there was a TCU option for the A8 4.0T...

No, I use my Turbo Tuna Boat to make fast sprints to work, school, gym and grocery stores. That's all the time I have for now... But I agree, gears feel very short and extra RPMs would be very nice.
