    Cycling the coolant pump?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Saw a thread here on cycling the coolant pump for the supercharger (something like opening the hodd, then opening and closing the drivers door). Tried that but it didn't work. Is it possible on the B8.5 to cycle the pump without turning over the motor?

You can wire it to a switch and turn it on in the cabin whenever you want.

Was looking for a "factory" mechanism for doing this. Similar to a BMW where you do a set of functions on the car to cycle the water pump in order to purge air out of the coolant loop. Figured there was some way via VAGCOM or similar.

my AMS pump cycles whenever I touch the door handle, unlock the car, move the seat from the inside, auto shuts off after 1-2 minutes if the car doesn't start or whatever

it's actually wired into same fuse set and harness as the stock coolant pump

i "want to beleive" that the stock one does run and prime in addition to the AMS because it's wired in with the factory harness , but you just don't hear it since its' so quiet?

I have AMS and every time I open a door or the trunk it turns on for a bit then turns off.

You all own B8s, correct? I'm wondering if the B8.5 is different somehow

Don't think there is a way to manually cycle the pump on either B8 or B8.5. You can rewire it to come on with the ignition and run all the time when the ignition is on.

On the B8.5 the pump turns on whenever the car wakes (open a door or the trunk, unlock the car, etc.). The factory pump is almost silent. My AMS pump is wired into the factory pump and you can hear it whenever the car wakes. You can just open and close the door and it will cycle.

Sounds like B8 and B8.5 are the same.

all of the aftermarket pumps will trigger when the power source provides power to wake up any of the OEM modules (ecu etc etc...). Although each are "plug-n-play" into the OEM harness, there is also a separate power wire that is wired directly to the power source behind the cowl.

Can tuners change it? On my e55 the tuners would change the programming for it to run all the time.

Why would you (or the factory) want to cycle the coolant pump when you open the door???

If your sitting at the drag strip you want to keep the coolant cycling through the SC to help cool it off. That is why a lot of guys are doing it.

As a means to purge air our of the coolant loop. I didn't have access to a vacuum fill system.
