Last night I had a chance to get out to Sacramento Raceway and run a few passes in some terrific October DAs (+300). When I got there the place was packed because it was Corvette night. When I pulled into line, I randomly ran into the guys from JHM Motorsports who were there to run some of their shop cars. We had 30 minutes to kill before we could even do a dial-in run so we chopped it up. Sup fellas! I got to the strip with ¼ tank of gas and 41 PSI in my tires.
When I finally did my dial in, I ran an 11.999 @ 113.64. My first time under 12 which was great! However it could have been better because I had a fuel shortage. On the second pass I ran a 12.005 @ 114.11. A faster trap speed, but slower ET due again to a fuel shortage I’ll get into in a second.
The record pass was right before they closed at 9:30pm. The DA was right around +300. Because of the fuel shortage issues at the top of the RPM band, I decided to manually shift earlier, around 6500 in 3rd and 4th, and it ran a lot better. Not perfectly, but better than the first two runs. The result was the fastest ET and the slowest trap speed 11.950 @ 113.61 of the night. I took an in cabin video and posted it to YouTube (below). I know the slip is hard to read, so here are the splits:
60ft: 1.772
330ft: 4.986
660ft: 7.660
1/8 mph: 92.05
1000ft: 9.976
The fuel shortage issue is the same one the E85-blend guys on the S4 board are facing. E85 requires 50% more fuel volume compared to normal gas because it isn’t as efficient. The higher the RPM and gear, the higher the fuel requirement. Above 6500 RPM I can feel the car “top out”, and basically cruise instead of accelerate. The great news is the S4 guys have found a solution in the form of an inline booster which increases the fuel volume. This is fantastic because it will allow me to shift between 6900-7200, and run more E85, and less crappy California 91. The EPL tune is ready to provide the power; I just need to upgrade my hardware to allow it to do its thing.
In addition to the 11.95, I also ran a 3.83 0-60 (VBox timed). I took a picture of the VBox app results since it had some other interesting numbers.
Special thanks to Tony and Chris at EPL for working with me on the tune. We’re going to start working on more stuff for you guys, so stay tuned for even faster times.
Happy boost season!
