Audi connect question - no internet connectivity

I bought a CPO SQ5 in late August. I asked the salesman at Wilmington Audi (great dealership!) if I could get the six month trial for free as new cars came with. He said, "They normally don't do that on used cars, but it doesn't look like you need it, because the previous owner never cancelled it, or the Sirius/XM subscription." Nice! My kids enjoy the Wi-Fi in the car, and of course I love the data savings, since it's free Wi-Fi.

A couple weeks ago, they started telling me the Wi-Fi wasn't working and on my Android, it says connected, no internet. In searching, I saw some people had the same issue, said to rename the SSID and use a new password. Did that, still no internet connectivity.

Audi connect still seems to be live. I get traffic information and I get the Google Earth maps rendered, even for new areas where I've never traveled, so it isn't a cached map, assuming they do cache maps.

I can't create an Audi Connect account, because it says the SIM is already registered.

I've performed a MMI reset, also to no avail. Anyone have any other suggestions?

Most likely the subscription from the previous owner ran out or he realized that he was still paying for your Internet access. Traffic information comes via Sirius/XM Traffic subscription and Google Earth is most likely still working, because it caches a several mile radius around the area you normally drive, even if you haven't driven in a specific area. Once you venture out further away, I bet that it will stop rendering satellite images. If the weather function, google online search etc. isn't working anymore, then you don't have a valid data subscription anymore.

You can also test this theory by zooming into the map and see if it renders the finer detail tiles, which it would have to download first, and if you zoom in all the way that you get street view.

Thanks. That makes sense now. The Google search was not working. I thought traffic data was pulled by cell data. Google Earth maps when out of my area were still there, but not with any detail.
