Poll: How many B5 S4 daily drivers?

I bought a B5 S4 Avant to replace my 2013 TDI Sportwagen as my daily driver. I am curious. How many of you have a B5 S4 as your daily driver? This data will help me to determine if I am crazy or not.

Drove mine as a daily for a year and had to do a clutch, alternator, and 02 sensor. It's been driven about 1000 miles in the last 5 months, steadily breaking one thing after another. I'll just say I'm glad I have another car.

I drove mine daily for about a year with it consistently overheating and a broken control arm and never got stranded once. I don't recommend anyone else doing that obviously so just keep up with maintenance and its a great daily IMO

It's my every other day ride..I bought the car with 95k and I'm at 120k now...in 3 years of spirited to hard driving..drag racing at local strip.. numerous Speedventures track days..a couple police-pursuits in and around East LA it has never broken-down on me..great now I jinxed myself.

Bought my car at 170k about three years ago, I'm at 205k now. Drive every day, about 40-50 miles daily. Hasn't once been undriveable, but I did replace a clutch (twice, got a bad pressure plate on first install). Also did the timing belt replacement as soon as I purchased the vehicle. I do a lot of maintenance though, so ymmv.

I daily mine 76mi a day. I got it with 130k on it and it now has 239k.

I drive the B5 once in a while.. But when I do I drive the shit out of it lol I have a Porsche 911, Ninja 636, and a truck that split the drive time

3 years as a daily - nearly 50,000 miles. A handful of 4-5hr trips yearly & a couple of 8-10hr trips a year.
Aside from expected maintenance, I have changed the battery, passenger side EGT & alternator.
Currently sits at 195,000.

Bought it at 70k, have logged another 80k as a daily. Got stuck once due to an air intake temp sensor that failed. Have had some of the usual stuff go...rear o2s, ignition coils, etc.

I bought mine with 50K on it. Has 165k now. I drive it for everything. The only rest it gets is during the summer when it rotates with the bike or when I am saving to fix something I did wrong.

36k miles in 2.5 years puts me at 133k miles. It was my daily all year but now i have a GTI for winter abuse. The S4 still gets driven in the winter, just not on the really shitty days.

I daily drove mine for 2-3 months, then it started breaking down so I bought a cheap Honda Civic to get me around.
Once I thought it was "fixed", I'd drive it again, only to be let down.
Then someone stole it and crashed it.
Having not learned my lesson, I bought it back from insurance AND bought another one.
I now daily a Silverado and use the S4 for groceries.

I did for about 15k miles. Until i blew the turbos...at 180k miles though.
Now its waiting to be overhauled over winter and back to it!

I daily mine, bought it August 2014 at 286K miles and have since put on 20K miles. Never let me down until the stock engine gave up the ghost at 450whp+ last week, other than that I've done tons of maintenance in addition to the stage 3 build.

My car wasn't a pristine example of a B5 S4 but treated me well and love it as a daily.

I used to daily mine, bought it at 82k in 2008 and it sits at 205k right now. Engine blew back in December and due to some issues with parts it hasnt moved since although it should be back on the road shortly. I picked up a diesel X5 as a daily in the mean time because not having a car sucked.

I daily drove mine for years through its various phases of power. Bought at 80k years ago, at 182k now. Been switching off daily driver duties between the S4 and RS4 lately, mostly the RS4 though.

I bought mine back in January of 2005 with about 28k miles. Its been my daily driver since and have about 144k miles now. Recently replaced factory clutch and have been stage 2 since 2006. I've only had the car shutdown on me once in the middle of summer last year and that was due to crank position sensor. Love my S4 and currently gathering parts for my stage 3 build!

I daily'd mine from the time I drove it off the lot in April 2001 until mid last year, when I picked up a C6 A6 4.2. It was only stage 3 for about a year before I got the A6.
I alternate driving them pretty evenly, but I've been in the S4 every day for the last six weeks. Just can't get enough.

I've had this topic come up a few times among the local groups and I'll share it here as well.

The B5 S4 is an aging platform, but its one that benefits from a huge enthusiast following and a subsequent aftermarket support. As long as you're willing to accept the reality that this older chassis can that will have its issues and are willing to spend the money CORRECTLY to maintain it, there is nothing to say you can't daily drive it. I did it for about a year, but I also had 1-2 other cars available to drive (Stg. 3 B7 A4 Avant, Subaru Forester, Mk4 Jetta Wagon). Mine has been sidelined due to a lengthy overhaul project I wanted to do, but once it's done I will be doing everything I can to daily drive it because why not?

The biggest issue I've seen with these cars is owners who cheap out and either hack job fixes, buy cheap parts that fail easily, or spend money where it's not needed then complain later on about it being costly to maintain. Don't be one of them.

Helpful feedback but if you read my OP it has already happened. Idea being my VW buyback offer was enough to payoff my loan and purchase a car for around $7000, which is about what I paid for my avant. So VW is going back to VW.

Did the same exact thing. Bought a B5 S4 sedan. My 2012 Golf TDI is parked until the buyback. Although next year I am hoping to turn it into my project car after I get another new car.

Complete workhorse. Just finished my first year owning her, went 20,000 miles, It takes me down hiking roads, brings me to mountain biking places, carries my kayak, hauls fishing equipment, carries my mates and I through ski mountains, reminds new (stock) STIs that they aren't all that fast, 12 hour drives occasionally, and still gets 25 life average mpg

my wife and i both daily drove our cars for about 2 years. granted not very far daily. we replaced the brakes and gets on both, control arms on hers and an alternator on mine. then we got winter cars every year. this year she put 600 miles on her car, i put about 1000 on mine. its nice to not have to worry to much.
