Who all has went the custom sub route?

While we love the SQ5, more so now that it is lowered on HRE wheels and now has the AWE touring system on it. The audio system is seriously lacking, more so when I think about the upcharge there was for the B&O system. The previous car the wife drove was a 2011 Lincoln MKX with the THX sound system, then we also have my 2016 GMC Sierra with the BOSE system in it. Both of them have a great OEM system in them, while they wouldn't blow you out of the car with the bass neither one of them is as lifeless as the Audi B&O system is. The highs and mid-range are decent, but there is absolutely nothing else after the mid-range. It is dead and flat.

With that I am going to make the jump. Goal is to either have a small enclosure made that will sit above the battery and where the factory package shelf sits with a single 8" sub and a small amp. I am not interested in blowing the windows out, just want to fill in more than what the stock system has without losing any cargo room in the rear at all. So basically I want the sub box under the floor just like the OEM.

Has anyone went this route yet and can share what their project looked like and how it turned out?

    TIA... Todd

    Hey Todd,
I haven't made it o the custom s B but I did add a small amp and just have a single 10" woofer. Night and day difference. Check out my build thread, a couple pictures there. I used to have a Passat and had a guy build me a sub enclosure for dual shallow 10s that sat above my spare under the floor, I plan to reach out to him to do a similar enclosure eventually in the Q. For now just a standard square box (measures 12x12x10) is working fantastic. Acoustics in a hatchback are always favorable.

    Just the sub?
I replaced the whole B&O with a custom audio system.
I know this car in and out, so just ask if there is anything you need.

The B&O system is not really that great. MOBridge DA3, HD900/5, Fiberglass enclosure in lieu of the storage tray and a nice three way up front. Done.

Simple molded fiberglass enclosure which replaced the drop-in B&O 6.5" ported plastic spare tire enclosure. Volume is somewhere just over .5cf with the 10" Hertz Energy ES F25.5 driver. I picked up a Diamond Micro 1 to sandwich behind the factory B&O amp in the wheel well. You don't have much room to work with in that pocket, and the Diamond Micro is among the more competent amps to use in that location.

    X2 on the mobridge
I use the Mobridge DA1 with a Mosconi 6to8 DSP, have 2 mosconi zero 4 and a zero 3, with a 3-way up front and 2x10" subs in the back.
    Sounds lovely! :)

Not sure how replacing just the sub would sound, but there are some posts about that on this forum. I also replaced the whole BO system, based on recommendation from a trusted installer. Overall sound is more natural and balanced with more bass extension. Not cheap though especially if you want a custom sub enclosure for OEM appearance in trunk.

    Pre Amp/DSP: Mobridge DA3
    Amp: Arc Audio XDi 1100.5
2-way: Focal Flax PS 165 FX
    Sub: Audiomobile EVO 10"
