why stage 1 91 oct APR is more powerful than uni?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I'm trying to get a tune for my car, and the convenience of uni's flash at home feature attracted me. However I found that on 91 oct, it only have 390 HP while APR's has 433 HP. Anybody knows why? Would love to flash at home since I don't want to visit shops for simply a software flash..

Different dynos will show different numbers. Dynos are only useful for comparing "A" (stock for example) to "B" (tuned) on the same dyno, preferably in the same atmospheric conditions.

Some equalizing can be done by converting the percentage gains for the A to B run on dyno x with the percentage gains from A to B on dyno Y.

that's pretty much like asking why coke taste better than pepsi ? lol you simply can't compare like that. look for 1/4 times and mph, you will draw a better conclusion.

I bought a stage 1 for my 2013 with dsg. Keep meaning to do a baseline log and then flash and log but I keep getting home too late ;)

I think some of the answer lies in the rev range on their dyno graphs. Apr goes out to 7200 while I think uni goes only to 6600 or 6800. So losing out on peak numbers. Uni not as good at marketing their stuff as Apr.

No tune is created equal, and no one's dyno numbers mean anything.

That being said, I wouldn't get unitronic. Lol. Wait and see what 034's flash from home capability consists of, or think about EPL

This is what kept me from going APR. The dynos they post are from 6MTs. Top RPMs for DSG are significantly lower, and the gain would be significantly less for HP, as peak HP is at top of rev range.

That's why you get the TCU tune for the b8.5's, allows you to use the increased rev range and get those higher peak numbers.

I get what you're saying, but that's another $1k, last I checked. So to get the advertised stage 1/2 APR numbers on DSG, you need to be willing to make that extra investment.

Keep in mind that APR starts out with the assumption that the stock S4 is making 359hp at the crank. The delta should be the same or very similar between the two companies. I ran an 11.8x on Uni Stage 2 on pure 93 octane with literally no other mods except an intake... a total of under $1500 in mods.

That being said, Uni offers no dsg tune and does not appear to be invested in dual pulley research yet/if ever. If you want an upgrade path and flashing at home, EPL is your answer for that.

And to safely run Stage 2 on the 6mt (for any extended period of time) you'll need to upgrade the clutch. Positives and negatives I guess.

Unitronic has said that they are working on a TCU tune as well. I'm not going for the killer tune that hits the 10's I'm happy with low 12's even high 11's, and a reliable DD. And the TCU tune will come when Unitronics R/D team has done all the testing necessary.

Unitronic was saying that a year ago and still no DSG tune, so I wouldn't go with them under the assumption that one is coming soon.

    Valid point.

I'm planning to tune come Spring. There may be more/better options at that point.

Thanks guys, those are valid points, appreciate it. I guess I'll wait a bit to see if uni will release TCU tune, otherwise might go with EPL.
