    Motul Synthetic oil

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey guys,
My S4 has had audi care on it and it ran out so no more free oil changes. I've been using the mobil 1 0w-40, but want to change out to a full 100% synthetic oil. I've been running amsoil in all my cars in the past but it seems Motul is a good choice for our motors and seems to be popular from what i've been reading. If so which Motul are you guys running, the "specific" or the 8100 X-Cess ??
    thank you in advance

I've just switched over to 8100 x-cess. Amazon has a great deal on it for $33 for a 5lt jug right now. Specific and 8100 are both terrific and both group iv synthetic. Which is a "true" synthetic oil. Most American sold synthetic oil is group iii "hydro cracked" oil. Only place group 3 synthetic can be sold as "synthetic" is USA. Europe has much tougher criteria over what a true synthetic is. Go over to bobtheoilguy.com for MUCH more info on this. Motul, amisoil, redline (group V) are great oils that come to mind I would use. Also Castro (euro spec) 0w-30 is 100% group iv. Only Castro oil sold in USA that is "true synthetic".

I was wondering the same thing, sick of the constant topping off with Mobil 1 euro formula. that Motul amazon deal looks promising.

I switched to liqui moly 5w 40 after Mobil 1 was burning way too quickly. I don't think it's fully synthetic, but if you do 4K oil change intervals like me (92k on the clock), I don't think it matters whether it's completely synthetic or not.

A guy at my local Napa auto parts has used this oil since new on his 2.7t A6 and has 250k+ miles on his engine....still on stock, original turbos!😃

I've been using Motul Specific for the past four years. I don't burn any oil, and the Blackstome analysis I had done on the first two changes looked good (no signs of excessive wear, and it held up well to my one year intervals which was my main concern).

I find this very intriguing. You are saying mobil 1 OW-40 is not a true synthetic but a "Class III"?

How many others using 8100 and do you still change at 5k intervals or do you stretch it out?

It may be group iv. Not actually sure. Could be. Funny thing is, for example, Mobil 1 0w-40 may be group 4 while 5w-40 is group 3. And there is no notification on the bottles. Also, group 3 oil may be just as good. I just like using the same kind of synthetic that is put in in Germany.

    Motul Synthetic oil

I have been running Motul Specific in my 2014 S4 for a few oil changes now. It's excellent stuff and I highly recommend it.

Mobil 1 0W-40 is PAO based and considered to be a true synthetic. Other Mobil 1 grades are typically not though. However, Mobil 1 0W-40 is also known to cause "lifter tick" type sounds in the B8 S4 and in various Porsche models as well, despite being the factory fill for Porsche. I'm not aware of it causing any failures though.

On a related note, most Audi dealers use Castrol Syntec 5W-40 for the S4 which is absolute junk and has been proven to shear down quite easily. The only reason Audi uses this is because Castrol offered the most aggressive pricing.

Used Mobil 1 0W-40 on my last change and noticed immediately the lifter ticking sound. Just did my change this weekend to Motul Specific 5w-40 505.01 / 502.00, and the ticking went away. I always used Mobil 1 in my LS2 and LS3 engines for years and never had any problems, these German cars sure are finicky.

Whoops sorry - meant to type Specific instead of Synthetic.

I've been running the Motul Specific since my second oil service @ 5K miles and couldn't be any happier with the results. I'm a spirited driver and I've taken my S5 to the racetrack many times and the Motul Specific really does it job !

M1 0-40 is one of the best oils out there.. if your car is burnin 0-40, it will burn Motul, Redline, etc..

This is far from the truth. Please don't spread bad advice.

I was actually just researching this today.

    X-Cess https://www.motul.com/system/product...pdf?1302646818
    Specific https://www.motul.com/system/product...pdf?1303836523

Consensus was X-Cess was just as good as Specific and also cheaper.

I've used excess at around 50,000 miles and it didn't burn until the last 2000-mile lifetime of the oil.
I can't really speak on the Specific, but I'm sure it's at least close or better. Hell it's made for our cars, its gotta be good lol

I guess you can't go wrong with either one. Buy the cheaper, if it starts burning, buy the more expensive one.
