2.0T Timing Belt Change DIY Help/Buddy

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I just touched the Audi recommended point for timing belt change @110k (or is it 105k?). Stealership quoted $1800 and an indie shop quoted $900. Life hasn't been kind to me over the summer and I can't pay $900 either.

Can somebody buddy up with me for a day's work to change it in exchange for drinks & cash? I've done some DIY on the car before but I just don't have all the tools, experience or space to do this complicated DIY by myself. Obviously, I'll get the timing belt change kit on ECS probably... Anywhere within 1-1.5hrs drive of Irvine is good with me.

I'm at 85k and mine is due soon. I'd be willing to come out and spectate or lend a hand if necessary.

I did mine a couple months ago and would be willing to help.

    Looks pretty straight forward:
    http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...ng-Belt-Change

That tensioner style is what the B6 now uses, which I just did on my B6 a few months ago. And much of the B7 process looks similar to the B6. Haven't played with a 2.0T yet, though.

If you aren't able to work it out with one of these other guys, let me know.

Thanks! I'll let you know... I'd prefer someone who's already done the change to help navigate the minefield :) But if something works out with someone else, I'll let you know so you can watch and be prepared for your own change.

Oh great, thanks! Did you do it on a B7 as well? I read that there's not a lot of difference between B6 & B7 anyway. Another user just contacted me to help out... I'll let you know if it doesn't work out for some reason.

Thanks! Yup, I bookmarked Phil's guide last night... yeah, it *seems* straightforward :) My DV change took me 3hrs and had to rope in a neighbour to help and battery swap took me 5 days, among others... I don't have the greatest luck in *simple* DIYs, LOL. Thanks, I'll let you know if it doesn't work out with someone else... Costa Mesa is close by!

Yes, B7. I did the timing belt service and replaced the turbo at the same time.

I ordered my TB kit from ECS today. Still uncertain of "when" I will do the work. Perhaps you can post a picture or two of your progress.

Awesome, good to know. For now, we're planning to tackle this next weekend and I'll order the parts this week. Any tips or gotchyas for a B7 2.0T?

If you decide you'd rather take it somewhere, feel free to send us an email. We can save you a good amount off the quoted prices.

2.0T Timing Belt Change DIY Help/Buddy

I had a great opportunity to do the work this weekend. Everything is buttoned up now and no leaks . My legs are quite sore from all that standing.
The trick for removing the 6 screws from the crank pulley, was to use Cr-M hardened socket. The mild steel simply deformed too much.
