    2012 B8 Oil Consumption

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I just did my first oil change last week but just a few days later I get the low minimum oil warning. Is it wrong to assume that 2p12 b8s didn't come with the oil consumption problem? Is there anyway one could check their vin?

2012 is susceptible to this problem. But maybe you did not completely fill the car with oil if you did the change yourself? How long have you owned the car, how many miles, and have you taken it to the dealer to tell them about your consumption problems? They can probably look up your VIN (and tell you you're not affected, even if it's a lie )

I made sure to fill 5 qts. I've owned the car for about 7 months when it came with 55,000 miles. Changed it when it got to about 62,000 (should've done it earlier) but after about 3 days from when I put the new oil in the warning came back up again. I didn't change the oil filter cause I couldn't get it off (broke an oil wrench kit trying) but may that could be causing the issue?

How did you drain the oil? Doubt the filter would suck up a quart, but get a cap wrench from ECS or Amazon.

I simply drained the oil old school from the bottom by screwing off the nut with a hex key

Well since you didnt have any problems for 7000 miles then as soon as you changed the oil the warning came up.....sounds underfilled.....smash a screwdriver into the side the oil filter and man handle it off, dont half ass it.

This, or your drain plug is missing the crush washer, or isn't tight enough.

Gonna check this afternoon for any leaks but I am 99% sure that I screwed it down all they way even made the little quarter turn to the left to not over tighten it.

It's weird as 2 days ago the warning went away on the way to work but yesterday evening the warning came back.

I actually changed the oil bcs I was getting the minimum oil warning after 7000 miles. So I changed the oil thinking the warning would go away but it hasn't.

That filter is going to have to come off one way or another.... Get a large strap wrench and throw a pipe on the handle to extend it, pull on it with swift, hard force and it should come right off.

I'm an idiot.. checked under the car to see the oil slowly leaking
Guess since it was my first time with a hex nut I thought I tightened it enough

Thanks so much for the suggestions

You need to get new washers or a better plug. It appears the stock ones (someone probably more knowledgable on Audi's can correct me) are one time use crush type washers.

They are one time use and are indeed crush washers. But, for practicality they can be use multiple times. Not sure how many times.

OP, If your going to buy new washers you mind as well get the ECS magnetic drain plug with the copper washers.
