Flashed My SQ5 with Stage 1 Tune from EPL (91 Octane)

Well, I finally flashed my SQ5. And I have to say I am pleased. Unfortunately I live in CA so I have to get a 91 Octane tune. But even so the flash has made a noticeable improvement. Throttle response is much smoother and it really pulls all the way to the red-line now. Power delivery is very consistent throughout the RPM band. Still getting used to it but its a lot of fun. Currently I dont have any plans for a dyno or for any 1/4 mile runs to give some actual data. But the feeling I get makes it completely worth it. One day I will probably go stage 2, but for now I am satisfied. Even got about 2 mpg better on my cruise to my Moms house this weekend (about 90 miles). Big thanks to @Chris@EPL for getting this done so quickly. He is very easy to work with and responds very quickly. EPL didnt have a 91 tune for my car and they turned that around in less than 1 day to set it up. Cant ask for anything more.

Yeah. . .I've heard good things about EPL. I would also be EPL if I hadn't drank the APR kool-aid.
I am very curious, though, about the new APR ultracharger. It will be released next month, but $?/+HP?
I'm also concerned about if it will mean scrapping my current tune (APR Stage-2) investment.

Flashing was super easy. I have an older Surface Pro 2 for my flashing CPU. It took about 10 minutes total to flash the car. I would think that a newer better CPU would do the initial steps before flashing faster than mine as well.

I have to be honest, I am very curious about the APR ultracharger too. We will see what comes of it and the costs. I dont see this as a wasted investment at all even if I do switch. Assuming it releases end of October, I wouldnt put it on until sometime early spring at earliest to see what people get out of it first. And with EPL being the most affordable tune (I believe any way as I dont know what everyone charges) this was a no brainer for me. Flashing from home is so convenient...

Glad to hear that you're satisfied with it. I've been debating for sometime now about tuning as I'm on the same CA/91 boat as you. That and the whole warranty conundrum - but as I'm already 1/4 of the way there in just 4 months I might wait it out. Thanks for the feedback, although you're not making my decision any easier! :)

Thanks! I didint ask, but would assume the same as anyone else would. If you go to the dealer without flashing back to stock and they hook up to the dealer tool you will get flagged. But since I went with EPL, I can flash back to stock any time at home.

I did the epl tune today. 93 octane here in IL. Car is not for me specifically - my niece - but I can tell you my short term time with it today it was a SIGNIFICANT difference. The flashing was so easy and convenient for me to switch it back for her when I have to service the car.

Also, they may have a product that is good. But I don't believe much of what APR advertises or says.

Alright! Another happy customer. I too was very happy how easy flashing was.

I'm not holding my breath for APR that's for sure! I happy to that they're trying something but I'll wait for quite some time if I ever jump on that bandwagon. For now I am one happy EPL customer!

This is good to hear. I just got the AWE exhaust system installed this weekend. A tune is on my list for the horizon in the future. Good to hear the EPL offers a solid service that produces some nice gains. I am interested in seeing what a 450hp SQ5 is like to daily drive in the future.

Flashing at home is very easy. With just our flashing cable a windows laptop and wifi you can install the tune in about 5 mins. On the S4 for stage 1 we conservatively say 345whp on our in house low read mustang dyno.

My biggest holdup on this has been
1-Warranty issue
2-past bad experience with engine failure after APR tune
3-distance I have to travel to APR for flash/reflash etc.

I may jump on this as warranty wains, if there is an at home option.
