Hello,
Coming back home yesterday my car flashed low oil pressure light(only once) while exiting the highway, thought its a clogged pick up tube or a bad oil pump as I never saw this warning light in my 7 year ownership of this car so decided to drive home which is just 3 miles away. But when I was near my home the low oil pressure light started beeping continuously and I immediately stopped the car. I checked the oil level later to discover there was no oil left in the engine and then I saw the pool of oil on the ground below engine. Upon further inspection I found out that oil was spilled everywhere underneath the car body, it was actually dripping close to the p/s wheel from the subframe and was really hard to see where it originated so I need you guys help in narrowing it down.
Car is 98 AEB MT, 270k miles
Below are some of the pictures of the leak, as you can see in the first pic the left/driver side of the oil pan is fully dry and no visible leaks are there.
In the second pic, the p/s side of the oil pan is fully wet and was dripping oil. I have a reference aeb engine on the side with an exact comparison. But then I saw that the starter is also fully soaked in oil and the transmisson case closer to the rear main seal was also wet. So far it looks like this is the highest point from where the oil is leaking but am not sure whether the p/s wheel played a role in spreading oil to the top parts of the engine on highway. Any suggestions on where the leak is originating, real main seal or oil pan gasket??
