Trunk not opening - NOT the latch actuator

My trunk doesn't open with the tailgate button, driver's door button or key fob button. I can open it with the key and the emergency handle. It seems that there is a break in wiring loom as when I manipulate the wiring (trunk open) I can intermittently get the latch to release. Unfortunately, I have been unable to determine where the break is as isolating the manipulation of the wires has proved difficult. I'd expect it be at a point where the loom flexes when the trunk lid is opened and closed but it almost seems like it's in the lid itself.

Has anyone else had this (I can only find posts concerning faulty actuators) and if so, where was the break?

For now I've put everything back together awaiting some wisdom. Failing that, I may have to try to replace a whole section of the wiring.

Would this be the same reason my trunk interior light will only momentarily and intermittently come on when opening the trunk? When it does light up it comes on dim, then quickly brightens then goes out. It used to start dim and get brighter slowly.
Fwiw, my trunk actuator works fine - so far.

And what is or where is the "flex point"?

I haven't studied the articulation but I can see that the lower part, where the wiring enters the body of the car, definitely flexes. Is this the flex point you are referring to? Or does it flex at the top too, where the wiring enters the lid?

I'm assuming you replaced a section so that the repair wasn't on the flex point?

On the three cars I have had it has broken in different places. Sometimes more than one wire break and they short together.
