NEED HELP PLEASE! Separating Engine from Gearbox.

    2011 A4 2.0 TFSI w/ 8 speed automatic transmission.

We have everything disconnected and unbolted. Gearbox is supported under the car and the engine is on the hoist. We can get about a half inch gap between the gearbox and engine all the way around but can not get them to separate any further so that we can pull the engine out. Any help would be great! Thanks

No. unable to turn crank to access all 3 bolts. Engine is seized up. Currently trying to line engine and gearbox together so we can remove oil pan to access the crank and piston rods.

You need to pull the front axle shaft out of the transmission bell housing. It passes between the flywheel and the flex-plate (which is bolted to the torque converter).

Will that give us the ability to remove the engine from the transmission?

Since the engine is seized and we cannot turn the fly wheel, We tried removing the sump(top section) to remove the piston rod bearing and coupling in order to turn the crank but we are unable to access the 2 bolts for the sump behind the fly wheel.

We are at a complete lose on how to remove the engine from the transmission when it is seized.??

Sounds like you need a bigger lever on the crank bolt. Another possibility is to remove the head If it seized against a bent valve. Also make sure its not in Park.

S4'ed, I'm helping bvelt remove the engine from his A4. Can you elaborate a little more on removing the front axle shaft to separate the engine and gearbox please. I believe what you are saying is by pulling the front axle shaft out of the bell housing we will no longer need to remove the torque converter to separate the engine and gearbox. Is this correct?
