I have been slowly tearing into my 2K A6 2.7t. I have a bad converter, turbos need to be rebuilt and so does the engine. I had initially planned on removing the engine since I could easily access the converter (with out removing the transmission) once the engine was removed. After removing everything that is shoe horned into this motor.........man what a tight fit!!! I"m asking myself if it would be easier to remove the transmission with the engine or not.
I currently have the top 4 bell housing bolts loosened, I removed the two forward facing Allen bolts on the bottom of the engine and I have the engine supported by a hoist. I have removed all 3 torque converter bolts, removed starter and alternator. I loosened the motor mounts just a tad. I"m just wondering if I should pull the transmission out with the engine or not?
How many bolts connect the transmission to the engine???
I can not disconnect the exhaust bolts because I can not remove the heat flanges and access the 4 bolts on the back side of each turbo. I removed all hardware that held the heat flanges in place, but I can't remove them due to clearance issues (go figure).
My plan was to lift the engine once it was disconnected from the bell housing and motor mounts. Then pull the engine forward enough to remove the two coolant lines ( I removed one already ) and then remove the exhaust heat flanges so I can then access the exhaust bolts for removal of the engine.
I"m not sure exactly where the other bell housing bolts are located, yet. The Bently is useless, I should have just purchased a Chilton and burned the extra 80 bucks :(
Any help or advise would be greatly appreciated :)
