Put aside your douchery for one second!

Alright guys. Put aside your douchery for a second to answer a question.

Everyone keeps telling me to do a search, and I've searched every topic I know how to.

How do you install the K&N cone filter? You can get them on amazon for like 20 bucks. What's the process. If there's a how-to, please put a link. But the product I have in mind is this one:

Do I need anything special for it, and can I just pop it in as easily as the stock filter? Because that little turd was so easy.

Send me a link to videos, how tos, or post up some stuff of how to do it. I can't find anything anywhere, and I'm not willing to go buy something only to find out that I need another part for it that happens to be like 90 bucks for it. Someone be a decent human being and tell me how it works please.

Match up your intake side size in mm or in to the size intake cone you require. Also double check that the cone filter comes with a worm gear clamp. If not, $1 at a hardware store.

Something else to ponder might be the placement of the actual cone - do you want an extension on the MAF? How long? With an angle on it?

really easy. If you want to go on a budget :
*note : you shouldn't gain any hp, you'll might decrease it. But it will worth it for the spool sound. (btw, the turbo sound level increase will be very low)

    You'll need :

    - 3'' aluminum piping. ( I use a 60° from a old nissan ebay intake, test fit it, cut it. )
    - 3''/3'' coupling (for MAF)
    - 3''/2.5'' for turbo intake.
    - the filter (oiled or not, urban legend that can damage maf, at least on all car I've owned and other people on the car scene. quantity is way to low to stick on the sensors )

    1. remove the front plastic intake conduit ( 2 screw visible to the top, out of the engine bay. You can keep it after install)
    2. remove the stock air box with the stock filter.
    3. You can keep or remove the stock intake rubber hose. ( I choose to replace it with aluminum 3'' piping)
    4. Remove the MAF from the stock air box, you need it, see picture for installation position.
    5. fit the cone on the MAF. MAF on the pipe. Pipe on the turbo inlet. You can reuse the conduit from point 1.

    6. optional : heat shield. Will ''help'' to force the air in the cone through the fender intake and the front plastic intake ''instead'' of the hot engine bay.

Update! The new filter is on, and it works fantastically. You can really hear the turbo wind up, and it has not only a better throttle response, but it also seems to be getting a ton more power. I figured it would be a slight difference, but it has truly been phenomenal. I had no idea such a small mod could really have that much effect on it. I'm very very pleased. However, derrek, I would love to see about the old setup you had, and see if it would be worth my time. Pm me about that.

If you scroll up you'll see pictures of it, I decided to pass, I really wanna get ecs tunings intake that essentially seals the intake off from the rest of the engine bay

I'm sorry to burst your bubble. I've actually noticed a boost in power by switching from the K&N dirt intake to a spectre air intake.

There was probably about another 2 inches of build up on top of that.

You'd feel the same difference just by cleaning out your snow trap and dropping in an OEM filter. Intakes don't add any horsepower, yours just freed up what you were losing by having shit built up in the way.

Put aside your douchery for one second!

This just in! A new filter flows more air than a reqlly really old dirty filter. We will continue to report on this story as it unfolds.

FWIW, I guarantee you if you put in a minimum of effort and check the MAF measuring blocks you might see an increase in airflow that likely doesn't exceed the standard error of the sensor. Aka there are no measurable gains. And just do yourself a favor and don't look at IATs at all. That will totally harsh your mellow.

Speaking of, what's the acceptable range for intake temps? Specifically the upper limit.

The upper limit is when the ECU starts pulling timing to prevent detonation or knock. The limit depends on a number of factors so there isn't really a hard limit.

Same. It's like a rite of passage. New guy comes in, gets stoked about his car, wants sweet sweet turbo sounds, hears about cold air intakes, doesn't search, creates asinine thread on subject that's been covered to death, learns that this setup is way fricking worse, defends self claiming huge power gains, world keeps turning until this happens again next year.
