    Help: used 2013 S5 with 44k miles

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hello everyone,

I'm a long time Audi owner (all S4's) I came across a great deal on a B8.5 S5 with 44k miles, but it's private party sale.

The Audi warranty expires in december (4years since first sold), what are the common issues with the 13 model?

Anyone use a third party warranty? If so, how much if you don't mind me asking.

Have u tried to get any claims approved?

Thanks in advance for your time and advice.

    Cheers!

I purchased my S5 used in 2014 w/22k on it. My warranty ends this November. I purchased a 3rd party warranty and have not needed to use it but I have buyers remorse thinking I should of just purchased one at the dealership. They have different tiers and actually pretty reasonable. Check with your local dealer for pricing. As for problems, I haven't had any issues. Only thing that drove me nuts were the squeaky breaks. I rode them till needed changes and went with ceramic breaks. No squeaking and minimal break dust. Lost a little of that initial bite though. If you plan on tuning don't bother getting warranty. You run a risk of being shot down come claim time. I bought warranty thinking I'd leave it stock which ofcourse I ended up tuning it.

I think Audi got most of the issues worked out by the 2013 model year. I have a 2013 A5 and the car has been solid. Only two real problems in the last 4 years:

    1. Fuel flap motor was replaced under warranty
    2. Remote control has very short range (within 2 feet of driver-side rear window) during hot summer days -- dealership declined warranty service because they couldn't figure it out and blamed it on the car being repaired by a non-audi-approved bodyshop after an accident. The guy said the paint overspray "could" affect the reception from the remote. I didn't know if I wanted to laughed out loud or cry.

In my experience, all the dealerships in the Los Angeles area only want money... they really don't care about you. Apparently, they don't make money on warranty work. But they REALLY wanted to sell me four new tires plus alignment ("its required") for $1600 even though there was 50% tread life left.

I don't know if you tried Audi Pacific, I had great luck with those guys. I flew in to LAX, to purchase my 2013 S5, private sale and the DSG died at the airport. Audi Pacific put it in front of the line, discovered it had a bad circuit board, removed the DSG, overnighted the upgraded circuit board, disassembled the DSG installed new circuit board, reassembled the DSG and reinstalled in the S5. They had me on the road in two days and I enjoyed everyone of the 2900 miles to home.
They also let me have a loaner so I could explore LA during my stay.

Did some research through forums, contacted a few homies down in SD and looks like I might be able to pick up a 3/30 extended for like 2k from Audi.

The issue I'm having with my 2013 is the same issue that I've seen others reporting. There's a "creaking" sound that sounds like it comes from the back window, but it's apparently caused by a bolt or something behind the rear bumper. I haven't had mine fixed yet, though I do plan on having it looked at soon enough. I believe it's just a matter of them replacing a bolt. I'd maybe ask the owner if he/she has that sound, and if they do ask if they can have the dealership fix it while they've still go the warranty. It's just an annoyance if you're really annoyed by random sounds.

    Congratulations on your new S5.
I picked up a CPO S5 a couple of years ago and I have not had any regrets, it is a great vehicle.
The biggest problem I have had have been of my own making, in deciding what mod I want to do next.
You might want to read a recent posting here on AZ called "ECU tuning the 5".
I am having my ECU re tuned tomorrow morning, I spoke with the SA and he states that it is a minor adjustment
and that no one has come in complaining, the work is getting done under warranty.
    Best of luck.

Never tried Audi Pacific, but your experience gives me hope. VW/Audi has had lots of problems with DSGs and yours sound like a typical mechatronic swap, but I could be wrong. I've never heard of a circuit board that could be swapped out. Either way, it's great that you had a good experience

At my shop i have seen a lot of customers have mechanical break down coverage threw their auto insurance. It will cover you if anything big happens and you submit it just like any other claim and can use any mechanic of your choice including the dealer. Audi dealerships will work with your insurance to have everything covered and done right.

The mechatronic was replaced a week before I flew out to get the car. At the airport the dash lighted up like a Christmas tree and the car stopped. There is a TSB out covering the internal circuit board delamination.

Anyway give them a try, they were great.

By the way how do you guys live with all that traffic?

I will definitely consider them for any major repair work in the future. Thanks for the tip!

As for the traffic, I used to eat a lot during my commutes. After discovering a few too many french fries beneath the seat, I switched to carpool karaoke. I can pick whichever song I'm in the mood for. Metallica is great! but so is Sinatra.
