My "Black Optiks" mod...

So after the car arrived at the dealers in June, I had the rear spoiler painted and installed and the brake calipers painted prior to delivery.

Now I just finished a complete make over of the car by completely doing a "Black Optiks" conversion... So here it is.

Took the pictures real fast today so they are not the greatest in quality. The purpose of this mod is/was to get rid of all the chromed trims on the car. The only two badges remaining that are not changes are the two S-Line badges. The mod turned out really great and IMHO the car looks sportier and somewhat meaner.


The door and window chromed trims were wrapped in gloss black vinyl. Europrice could have gotten me the OE "Black Optiks" trims but the cost was upwards of $2200 plus taxes landed in Canada!

Europrice got me the complete OE "Black Optiks" front grilles kit (3 separate grilles), the "Black Optiks" camera mount and plate delete filler.




Close up of the main grille and the two lower side grilles. The Audi logo does come with the kit but it is chromed so I decided to have it painted Tango Red for a more punchy effect.

Onto the rear end of the car... The Audi logo was painted gloss black.




Originally I wanted to debadge the car (A4, Quattro signs and the TFSI). I asked the dealer to do it for me and unfortunately they scratched the car while doing it. It was a very small scratch but deep enough that even polishing it could not get rid of it. They offered to pay for the paint job to repair the scratch ($400) but instead I came up with the idea… They should just pay for a new A4 badge ($65) and pay for it to get painted gloss black (to match the Audi logo). They agreed. The A4 badge once installed would cover up the very small scratch and everyone would be happy.




Of course the chromed exhaust tips had to go too. So off to the powder coating shop they went... Shinny gloss black please!

The tips look fantastic powder coated! Great idea!

Our of curiosity, did you consider having the plate section painted gloss black on the front grill as well? The one thing about the Audi grills I dislike is the solid pieces that show through.

The dealer painted the car but yes the whole rear was removed. The valence comes apart and the mesh too.

The plate section is the same colour as the rest of the inner portion of the grills which is not gloss so no never wanted it painted.

And that's exactly the point!

It's a sports sedan, it shouldn't be boring to look at or drive.

What's the use of getting the Black Optiks option and leave a chrome logo on?

Satin black? Gloss black? We looked at it and the small rings just disappear in the back ground!

Yes the Tango Red is "punchy" but IMHO it says "look at me" and with no chrome on the car it's sportier looking... To each his own I guess.

Jet Jockey- think I remember you back from Audi World many years ago. I had 2004 B6S4 at the time. Back when Sia, Dr. GP and gang were around. Was Gitteeup over there. I have been out of the audi scene since that car until last week.

Hi, IMO I just woulld leave rings chrome, but of course that's just me. Have you thought painting the rear spoiler black as well? I have a tango red and plan going a similar route.

No I like the spoiler to be colour matched otherwise I would have bought the CF version.

Okay, I will agree that the rings should be some other color, but your A4 looks sharp and aggressive. You are fronting for the rest of us who stay stock. Nice job!

Like many others I'm not a fan of the red rings (perhaps they look better in person than in pictures) but either way I like what you've done with the black trim pieces and badges, looks very sporty & aggressive!
