Advice on my B6 A4 before spending another $10,000

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Thanks for any and all advice or opinions on what you would do in my position.

    2002 b6 a4 1.8t 84kmi
    Water pump belt done
Turbo swap, massive FMIC, ECU swap custom tune, custom forging, diverter valve, downpipe and cat removal, exhaust, complete audi RS4 brake setup and clutch/flywheel setup, just did all the wheel bearings as well and a few sensors. A lot of money into this car and it runs beautifully.

I was salvaged (shouldve argued that one) after being hit and run by an uninsured driver I need over 6k in bodywork done, no structural or severe damage. quarter panel and rear bumper.

For 6500 I can replace this b6 and swap the parts.. or put the money into my s4. But I have a love for this car and really don't want to part with it. Does 6500 seem steep for a qtr panel and rear bumper and a little paint on the front bumper?? Lastly, with what I've done I'm wondering what further performance/tuning I can get into. I'm thinking dual methanol injectors and other than that I'm a little bit at a loss... before we talk going back into the motor for a rebuild or a possible swap have i covered most bases?

    Thanks

I can't help mentioning that carrying uninsured/under insured driver insurance is a lot less expensive than $6500.

regardless of the insurance, they would still total it based on damage. I'm about to salvage my 3.0 because it has a dent in the rear fender and a dent in a front fender. here in Nevada the rule is: if repairs exceed 60% of 'market value', the insurance company can/will offer to total it (instead of repairing).

we all know what our b6's are worth nowadays. mine with 240K+ on the odometer worth even less!

I think $6500 seems a bit expensive. the rear quarter panel will be where most of money is spent since they have to cut out the panel and then weld a new one on, plus removing /reinstalling all molding and such.

Assuming the damage is just 'cosmetic'. I'd call around (or drive if your car is still driveable) and get some other estimates.

I understand your position, but at least OP would not be out for the full $6500. I'm off topic here, I regret mentioning this aspect now.

I ignored your comment because it boils down to a 'couldve shouldve wouldve' but if you do understand properly road_tripper is correct I ended up in the position he described. However with much lower mileage. Under no insurance police that I believe is available to me can I possibly get them to repair this damage if it exceeds what they consider to be the value or damage percentage compared to value of the car. Mine bluebooked over 10 by a bit i was given a 4500 check.. Couldve shouldve wouldve.

I have specialty insurance on a Porsche RUF Turbo R VIN. Irreplaceable. This is a b6 a4.... And were you insinuating that I was driving uninsured? Underinsured? How? Want to see the policy? Dont come here and sidetrack a thread in that way your comment was completely just another thing to scroll past.. I don't appreciate that whatever seniority I have here we are all enthusiasts and I don't expect comments like the first one you left, I forgot I'm back on messageboards I guess. Contribute something ignore the thread or take it somewhere else, thank you for understanding.

From what I've been hearing 6500 is a bit steep I have the breakdown and am getting some other estimates. My insurance adjuster said it would cost 9500 to fix and declared salvage.. off topic now. It is completely cosmetic, yes. Great car took a few trial and errors to get the ECU dialed in been great..

Buy something better than a b6a4 if you have the money to have specialty insurance or whatever, or fix it and keep it. Your call. These cars have no value any more, whoever booked your car at $10k is laughable even if it had 20k miles its not worth near that. Mods don't add value.

There's a lot of things I don't know about what's possible in this situation, but IF it was me...

I would do a lot of the repair myself. Did the damage to the quarter push the rear bumper cover out of alignment? If not, I would get a new (well, old) bumper cover and quarter from a salvage yard and replace both pieces myself. Grind out the spot welds, weld in the undamaged panel, and get estimates from a body shop based on that.

I did not mean to insinuate anything really, I just assumed from the original post that you did not have insurance coverage for uninsured drivers. I for sure did not intend to offend you. I apologize, I regret my off topic comments.

I bought a front fender from a wrecking yard, had it mailed to me, and I bolted it on myself. Came complete with rock chips just like the original :) color was perfect and matches the fading on the hood and doors (same year donor).

front and rear bumpers should be able to be fixed inexpensively by a plastic repair shop. since my b6 gets thrashed mercilessly off-roading, I'm not too keen on multi-thousand-dollar repairs for small blemish on the rear quarter panel. I'm leaving it as is.

my car 'valued' at $3400, minus the $600 a salvage value the insurance company offers $2800. TBH, there's no way I would sell my b6 for $2800, everything works perfectly mechanically/electrically, interior is in great shape.

FWIW, the repair estimate for the rear fender (replace), front fender (replace), front bumper repair (inc. new headlamp, new spoiler) was $2500.

I had a turkey hit me on rear passengers side. Not easy to pull the dent in that area. The quote was 1300.00. And they would have to respray all the way to the front of car to blend in. I need the car resprayed anyway and was quoted 3500.00 for all dents removed and the paint job. So to me 6500.00 is high. Hell might be worth it to even drive 100 200 miles to a good body shop that's not gonna over charge. Bad side salvaged title the resale value will drop. In upstate new York salvaged title cars are dirt cheap. Doesn't matter how much after market parts are installed. If your going to keep car. It doesn't matter. But I wouldn't pay 6500 to fix it.
