    Creaking

And for once it's not my bones!!

I'm noticing recently creaking and it's hard to narrow down from exactly where on the car.

It is very easily treated by a sudden increase in radio volume however in the interests of good practice I think I should probably try to find out why.

    So, my first question...

This seems to have happened at about the same time as I changed wheels, both sets were identical size 19x8.5 and the only difference between them was that I went from 45 offset to a 35.

Is it possible this could have had any bearing on this?

    Cheers

    Mick-

I don't believe your change in wheels would create a creaking noise. As for bearings, when those start to fail you will hear a low rumble or drone that varies with speed.

Has the temp in your area changed (dropped) recently? I will experience some "creaking" in the front suspension when turning the wheel on cold mornings. When does it occur?

Sorry I misled you, I wasn't suggesting bearings, I meant had any implication.

Mostly during slowdown or pickup, almost like the body flexing if that makes any sense.

It's true the temperature is headed south but not to the sort of degree where I'd expect to hear brittle noises.

Take a look at the sway bars. A common culprit on our cars.

Mick, I have been experiencing creaking for a good two months now but I haven't got around to fixing it. I had the car on jackstands and turned the wheel and found that the sway bar end links are the thing causing the noise in my case

    Thanks 2010 and all.

    I'll take a look.

In fairness it has been observed that I can completely fail to hear my wife at 2 feet away, but, hear a pin drop in the car

Like others have said, try this first. These are big heavy cars and the sway bar links take a lot of stress over time.

Just curious, as I am no expert yet by far, how long should/do they typically last before you should replace them? My car is a '10 (duh) with 90k

I replaced mine at 70K, depends how aggressive you drive, road conditions, is your driveway steep with a sharp turn, are you running stiffer sway bars? 90K, these are likely done or close to it IMO.

I can't speak for the previous owner, but I drive fairly aggressively and I do know I put more miles/year on than they did. Had a couple gift cards after my coilover purchase so ECS tuning is shipping them this way as we speak

    The end links?

I haven't looked at all yet, but if it is that, is any Audi only tool required, or is a straight forward process?

Nope just a socket set. Not sure of the exact size but it's just two bolts with a nut on the backside each.

Is this a different than a body creak? I feel like I hear the body of my car creak when I turn 90 degrees from one hard hill to another?

If your going to swap out the F/R sways would you do endlinks and bushings at the same time?
Anyone have experience using non-OEM parts? Its crazy that you can get a kit (front) for $35 while Audi links (font) go at $125/side

Thanks 2010, I think mine is getting worse but that could be my mind playing tricks, and notice occasionally when turning a corner.

90% of the time I think it's at the front and then just occasionally it feels like it's behind me.

I just installed an entire front suspension (control arms, tie rod ends, C-Links). I sourced it from FCPEuro. It was a Meyle HD kit. It is built to exceed OEM specifications. I highly recommend them.

As for doing the sways, it is not necessary to replace the C-Links, but it is not a bad idea to do it since you are already in there.
