Unique Car Care - New Location

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Just in case anyone else decides to stop by Unique Car Care without calling first, they recently moved:

    22 Dale Street (Rear)
    Andover, MA 01810
    781-389-3913

I had not heard back from Rick after texting him about checking out my car, so I decided to swing by the Stoneham shop... DOH! At least the new shop is only ten minutes farther up 93.

I think he received three calls as he was looking at my car, and still trying to get settled after moving, so do not think he is blowing you off if you do not get an immediate response!

P.S. You are going to think the GPS screwed up because the new shop is in the middle of a condo complex

I know someone had mentioned they were moving, but I was not sure when. I had literally just installed my new steering wheel, jumped in the car to go for a quick test drive, and realized I could just swing by their shop as I was driving along the Fells in Winchester.

I had a couple hours to kill, and what better way than driving more

Any tips on fun local roads? My wife is going to try to take a non-rainy day off next week to do a midday drive on the Kancamangus Highway; neither of us has been, and the foliage should be good. Weekends are tough with our maniac son, and the first "family drive" last weekend in the 911 was a disaster...

Fells winchester being south border Rd? Love it, I live close. That, 28 on the other side between Medford/Stoneham and the Mystic Valley Parkway in winch/medford are roads I'd pay a shit ton of $ to close down for a day to drive really fast.

The Kanc is great, go for it! I'll be in wolfeboro for Columbus day weekend, should be good.

You guessed correctly regarding S Border Rd; one of the best roads in the Boston area! I will have to check out that stretch Rt. 28.

My wife is fine with going up to NH for a drive/lunch; the problem is her being able to take off a day with short notice to catch a good-weather day. Any suggestions for good lunch spots?

the south end of south border road ends up at that circle. follow it around and head back north up 28. There is a straight up hill stretch, a gradual left hander that then goes back under the highway and turns right into another straight (where there is an entrance onto 93S). If you catch it at the right time and are okay with the risks of cops, then you can have some very good fun. But i didnt tell you that...

I really want nothing more than to be able to rip around that stretch of Mystic Valley Pkwy, especially since it just got repaved.

For up north, it depends on how much time you have. If you're making a day of it, i'd say head up 93 to Lincoln to catch teh the Kanc from west to east. Then up through North Conway to 302 to 3 back to 93S. For lunch i'd go to either the Shannon Door in Jackson (best bar pizza ever, literally crave worthy) or the Margarita Grill in Glen, both are more/less on your way. Both are in heavy rotation for ski season. Delaney's and Flatbread are good options too. For dinner there is White Mountain Cider Co and 1785 Inn depending on what you're looking for.

sorry to thread jack but you asked!

Thanks for all the tips! I might have to hit S Border Rd. this afternoon

I used to ski at Cannon, and climb at Rumney, but never really ate up there. We would have 8+ hours (daycare is up to 11 hours), so definitely time to cruise around and enjoy a long lunch.

Hey guys...sorry to butt in but as a noob to skiing (2-yrs) and whilst still new I have done a fair share of ski (Co, BC and NE) I am researching the coming season and the Max Pass looks like an awesome deal, and has no less than 12 eastern mountains- thinking about doing Mt. Tremblant for New Years! Any of you guys every driven that and if so any tips/ideas or advice.
    Thanks

I have not skied in years due to working a lot, and then having a kid...

I can't help on Mt. Tremblant, sorry.

Have you been to Cannon, NH? It is a cold, dark, icy mountain but I love it because the locals are really nice, it is rarely crowded, and people who can't carve a turn on ice stay at Loon

That's my DNA. Full on, no short cuts. Blues mainly. Black in Wach but I get there all relative. Definitely sticking to runs. Need to get slope fit now tho.

My wife and I did our first "adults only" drive in the 911 this afternoon; we rode all around the Fells (Fellsway E is FUN ). She drove for the first time, and almost immediately said, "Now I get it... This is fun!"

Thanks for the tip on 28: Made the left off Elm onto 28 south, got on it, but remembered what you wrote about police on that road, so I coasted around the right bend in the road. Well, a state trooper was sitting behind some trees on the right side as I came around the corner doing the speed limit

That's great! My wife couldn't give 2 shits. Thinks it's all silly (though had no problem picking out a $70k XC90). Maybe when I get into a 911 and she drives it that tune will change...

So you went 28 south through those S bends into the circle? Another fun little stretch for sure. I was talking about 28N as if you take a right out of Elm and head North. Try that next time. You can actually do a loop all around the Fells which is a lot of fun, moreso without traffic/cops.

Man, Rick really has dudes drinking the koolaid these days. UCC is top notch, but they're not really.... err.. unique in that.

My wife is/was all about SUVs too; she is tiny, so she likes sitting higher.

We did a loop on S Border, cut up Elm through the middle of the Fells, and then did an out-and-back run on Fellsway E. That will definitely be my midday drive destination
