    Tune + Piggyback

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Does anyone know if our cars the 4.0t can handle a tune plus a piggyback like they do on the 3.0 supercharged engine? Has anyone tried it or are we at max boost etc on a stage 1 before we get in to dangerous territory with EGTs etc.

I don't really fancy playing Russian roulette with my motor. But someone obviously asked the same question on the S4/S5 and it worked out well. Those guys are running faster than our Stage 1 cars now. Think one guy Loe has run an 11.2 on E85 which is mental.

HyperM3 had a racechip on his S6. Worth pointing out that he did not stack with an ECU tune, he ran it on its own. It is essentially a piggyback, not an ECU tune. Here is the link to the product. The discussion is that this is not detectable by Audi since it is not an ECU tune and therefore could not be flagged TD1

    https://www.racechip.com/shop/audi/a...1kw-550nm.html

Here is his thread using it on his new A4.

IMO if you're going to shell out the extra money for a piggy, why not just ask your tuner to custom tune your car and get to the same result with better controls in place?

Who custom tunes? Revo don't and I don't think Apr do. Can't be added switching the tune I've got is great. Just looking at ways to get more out of it. Like why does the rs rev higher in neutral and a tuner in Europe has raised the redline to 7000. Surely more power to be had there

This should not be necessary on the 4.0T. You would use either one (tune or piggy) but not both. The reason some stack them on the 3.0T is because the tuners had not yet developed files for "dual pulley" cars. People were using standard stage 2 flash tunes. Those standard tunes left power on the table because boost targets were not being reached. Stacking the piggy allowed them to claim that extra boost. There's no reason a competent tuner isnt already taking full advantage of available boost of the 4.0T right now.

Sorry I was going by your sig so I figured you didn't have a tune yet. There are a few people who have had APR do custom tuning, although I'm not sure how deep you'll have to reach into your pockets. There are some other guys here in the states who will custom tune.

EPL basically custom tunes for the price of a box tune. I have sent many many logs to Tony for my S4 to which he has sent me a revised tune for my car...maybe 3 times now.

Interesting what would that cost? And what about different launch rpms and redline increase?

No charge for normal stuff. You want the LC higher than 5k RPMS? The redline increase would not do much as the cars are not still making max power for the extra few hundred RPMS.

Obviously this is only an option for EPL customers. We can't really customize another company's tune.

Huge difference. I can email Tony with what I would like changed, he requests certain log parameters, I send the logs his way, he sends me a custom revised tune for my car within 36 hours usually.

You will never get that kind of attention or custom style tuning for APR or any others unless you physically go to their facility. Not to mention, with EPL, you can flash your tune from home. MASSIVE difference in convenience.

if thats his turn around time on tunes thats a huge change compared to when i had him a couple years back for my s4.

Even though Tony tries to get my posts deleted in his threads i still think he is a great guy and very smart when it comes to tuning.
