    Ecu tuning the 5

I'm looking to "tune" my A5 within the next couple of weeks. Pricing is obviously a concern. I was quoted $799 for the shop's tune. They're a reputable shop that pumps out some of the tri-state area's best euro cars. My concern is, is the price right, good or am I getting ripped off? Stage 1, similar numbers to apr

APR is $600, so if it's similar numbers, why not pay less and go APR? I don't think many would dispute the proven reliability of APR's off the shelf tunes.

I could appreciate a custom tune if you were able to squeeze more power out, or you had some parts the OTS tune wouldn't cover. But it doesn't sound like that's the case.

Good luck with what you decide.

Well they mainly do Bimmers, and I've been in the cars they've tuned and was impressed to say the least. I just wanted a price for the moment as I want to shop around. Saying that, its the APR $600 installed in the car? or do I have to o send the ecu out and install myself? I'd rther someone who has experience with this stuff handle it as I have literally no experience with it

$600 + tax, and depending on which dealer you go to they may charge labor for the flash too, $50-100 maybe. My local dealer does free flashes so it wasn't an issue I ran into. You can check for a dealer near you at this site: http://www.goapr.com/dealer/

These tunes are done by flashing directly through your OBD2 port from a computer/device, no need to take out your ECU and ship.

With that said, I may have an APR flash and love it, but they don't pay me to sell their products, so keep in mind there are plenty of other tunes on the market. I'm not hugely familiar with the 2.0T but for the 3.0T GIAC http://www.awe-tuning.com/giac-a5-2-...ashloader-chip, and Unitronic https://www.getunitronic.com/ecu-tun...-TSI-2012-2013 are among APR's competitors. Make sure you put in your car year and such as I just pulled the first A5 links I saw.

Giac and Uni also come with devices where you can flash the tune yourself from home. Another thing to consider is upgrades beyond the stage 1 flash, you'll get a discount if you want APR's turbo upgrade if you already have their tune. Some things to consider.

just to add too read the B8 A4 Forum for research as a lot of us S5 owners read the B8 S4 Forum. The '4 guys tend to be heavier in modding than the '5 guys so most of the information and knowledge is in their forum

I paid $680 for GIAC stage 1 for tune, tax, and shop labor. The response you get from the tune is definitely worth the cost.

If you don't mind me asking what part of NJ are you in and what's the name of the shop?

You know it's funny I noticed that the '5 guy mainly mod in the aesthetics department rather than performance, thanks for the tip!
