BEL harness help identifying a wire

Hey guys, I am in the thick of swapping a BEL into a B6 chassis and noticed a stranded wire in the engine harness. It looks like a single purple wire on the driver side near the fuel injector and ignition coil connections. The harness came from an '04 A6 TIP BEL.

The spare APB harness I have does not have a single wire connection in that area. Neither does the 3.0 V6 or 1.8t harness. Is it a ground?

Im going to take a wild guess and ask if it has anything to do with the coil pack differences between apb and bel.
