This is the connector on the back of the rear ac controller in the back of the console. I don't want to break it, but it appears to me that the red clip holds the connector in?

Most of the Audi connectors have a two stage locking mechanism.

The red clip will usually pull up or rotate (does not remove completely) then you push in (or out) the black locking tab while pulling the plug and socket apart.

That's kinda what I thought too, but the red one doesn't want to move. I'll keep working at it, just didn't want to break it if I wasn't holding my mouth right trying to open it :)

This one looks like it will rotate, so try getting a small screwdriver/blade under the two red "prongs" and lever upwards while rotating towards the back. You should then be able to push the black tab back towards the wires and pull out the plug.

It actually pulled straight out with a little effort. I hate breaking things like that taking cars apart. I have my entire car disassembled for new trim now and only broke one clip. Not bad!

I really appreciated the insight of the two-stage locking, thanks.

I'll be installing my Beaufort trim in a week or so, not looking forward to the center console removal. Any tips?
