    Squeaky windshield

    Hi all,

My A4 B7 3.2 six speed has an issue. On cold mornings, my windshield makes a squeaky noise as I drive over bumps. As a daily driver in San Francisco, you can only imagine how annoying my problem can be. I'm convinced that the clip that holds the VIN number on the driver side of the windshield is lose or needs some reinforcement of some sorts. I believe removing the dashboard would be helpful to fix this. However, there is no DIY write-up on how to remove the whole dash. Can anyone share a link or shred some light on how to do this?

    Thanks in advance!

    Steps include:
Remove drivers and passengers front airbags
    Remove steering wheel
    Lower the steering column
    Remove instrument cluster
    Remove radio
    Remove center console
    Remove glove box
Lift dashboard out from the car

If you still want to do it PM me and I can send you the Bentley instructions. It's more time consuming then it is difficult

Had that on one of my B5's. There are defroster vents on the leading edge of the dash cover. They butt right up to the glass. On mine, I found that if I pushed on the dash cover in the right spot right by the windshield, squeak disappeared. So I bought a piece of black felt, cut a small piece, pushed down on the dash cover as I slid the felt in there, then let up on the dash cover. Never heard the squeak again.

I'm not saying that's your problem, but I'd push down on that dash cover by the windshield before I did a dashboard R & R just to chase a squeak.

If you could share those instructions, that would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

I'll give that a try! Thank you!

Had this issue on my B7 after windscreen replacement.
Just had slim tool and managed to grab the vin numberplate and put it in place.

What kind of tool did you use?

Update. Ended up replacing the windshield. First the shop installed one and squeaky noise wasn't so bad but I told them that I wanted the noise to be done with. A week later they installed a new windshield and it went away!

Keep you updated if it comes back.
