    1.8T ATW Oil Issues

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hello,

I have a 2000 1.8T A4 Quattro, I am having various Issues and i need help. The engine was overfilled by like 4-5 quarts maybe even more......it was ran this way but not for to long of a distance. I drained all of the oil and then refilled(to correct level) with brand new oil. On my test drive the low oil pressure indicator came on and the car shut down. Next I changed the oil filter, and oil pressure switch/sensor (Using Info from a thread search here). The low oil pressure indicator came on after the next test drive, then car stalled/died. I towed back home again. There is also white smoke sometimes at idle, but there was no other fluids in my oil after both times i drained it......could the head gasket still be blown and would my next step be changing the Oil Pump and pick up tube? PLEASE HELP!!

You seriously overfilled the engine, and oil is probably sitting in the cat and exhaust. This would explain the smoke.

I cannot figure out why you have low pressure. Was it low before? Odds are you have damaged cam journals and engine bearings by now. Overfilling *should not* cause low oil pressure. Unless perhaps you did not fill it up enough after you drained it all

    Thanks for the reply,

Well I have already ordered a new Oil Pump, and prior to the overfilling issue........i didnt have any low oil pressure warnings.

It's likely the pump since when it is overfilled the pump has a relief valve that opens when it is over pressurized by all the extra oil and after the valve is likely stuck open/failed causing the low oil pressure.

The smoke is something you need to burn off, like redline said oil is sitting in the exhaust.

I believe this to be untrue. I am not aware of a pressure relief in the pump. There is one in the oil filter housing and one in the oil filter depending on which oil filter you use. And I do not see how overfilling would cause the pressure relief to stay stuck open

Section 4 in post #2 shows where the relief valve is on the pump. I tend to agree I can't see how it would become stuck or would have failed by doing what it's supposed to do.

Yeah most posts I see about these issues keep coming back to the pump, pick up tube and screen.......The pump will be here tomorrow so we shall see if this fixes my issues. Thank you so much for all of your input, all info is appreciated.

It makes sense, it would cause to not be able to build oil pressure. I mean, it was seriously overfilled, the valve was probably forced open and something broke. Also I would look at the main bearing while you're there.

True however we are dealing with an 058 pump, that is 06a. I'm still not sure but it would be logical to guess that it has a pressure relief valve as well
