    Headlight Bulb upgrade - 2010 A6 3T Prestige - HID

The light output of my stock headlight is very poor, my wife's VW Rabbit's headlight is probably twice as bright as my Audi . I am the second owner of the car and I think the bulbs are the original factory fitted ones.

I believe the stock bulbs are 35W philips HIDs, can I replace it with a 55W HID system? Has anyone tried this? Will it help?

Here is an HID kit that claims to be compatible with A6,

Has anyone tried installing 55w HIDs? Or should I simply change the HID bulb with same spec? Appreciate your inputs.

    Thanks

I have no experience with 55w in my Audi (I did do a 55w swap in my old car, that had reflectors though) most of what I read warned against it. There were "arguments" that it would melt the housing (mainly fogs) or ruin the reflective paint. There are people that did it, so either search or hope they chime in.

I did switch my OEM for 35w 5500K - it was a straight swap, no new ballast required.. Technically 4300K has max light output (I believe), but I feel the whiter color from 5500K gives me better visibility (personal preference).

I would go with F5 Fast Bright Ballasts if you're wanting to upgrade the wattage. It will decrease your bulb life but obviously you're not happy with their output.

You'll need wiring adapters though along with the ballasts.

You can get them on Amazon here
    https://www.amazon.com/Racbox-Bright...t+Ballasts+55W

    Or Aliexpress Here

They are known for being pretty good and comparable to oem and fire and bring full brightness fast.

A lot of hid kits take awhile to warm up and get to full brightness, not something you want.

If you aren't worried about the cost, TRS retrofitsource.com has better quality ballasts. I would chose them over anyone, an Atlanta based company.

The biggest problem here is making sure the connections are going to work with your factory bulbs unless you plan on replacing them?
Either way you're going to have to remove your headlights and do a little fab work to replace the factory ballasts with an aftermarket one.

Honestly, your best bet is calling TRS and seeing what they say, they'll know exactly which parts you need to make it work.

I recommend going with a regular 35w Phillips or osram replacement one of the superbright white ones, in 5000k colour temp and look into replacing the lens of your projector with a clear to replace what I'm guessing is a fresnal lens which reduces light output/crispness for better light spread and less intensity. I'd also guess that the reflector bowl is not perfectly mirror chromed and may be burnt which further reduces output. With age HID do lose brightness.

My gf had a e90 LCI and compared to my B8 A4 her lights 10x brighter and clearer. That's likey bc hers is clear lens and audi uses fresnal, and my bulbs were probably older.

With the C6 non facelift I know the projectors can be upgraded with evo xr which come with clear lens. Not sure if you can do that too
