    New S4 Owner - IMPRESSED!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi guys-

I've been a long time BMW owner. Over the last 17 years I've owned or leased 8 of them. Starting in '99 with my first, a silver 323i. Somehow I've just never given Audi a chance until now. I needed a "winter" car. I daily a 2013 911S, but that's going to be mothballed by the end of October. I looked at everything. Could have bought another 5 series but I wanted something different. So I was thinking of looking at the S6. There's a killer black on black one at a local used car dealer. Went to check it out and it was THE BALLS. But, it's kind of big and heavy. Just so happens they had a sharp S4 there too with only 25K miles on it. Took it out and LOVED the drive. The thing is a blast. Bought it the next day with no hesitation. Perfect daily/second car for me. And it goes smashing with my red 911! So being that my wife drives a 2015 BMW X5, we're really representing Germany in my garage. Here's a couple shots..

    Thanks-
    alec

Welcome to the club! Nice P-car too

Looks like the previous owner did you a few favors, blacked out diffuser looks great as does the black window trim.

Do yourself a favor and buy an intake, the SC whine is addicting

AC Motors? I was looking at this as well. Did they give you any wiggle room on that price?

Great choice, and great garage. Although I now live in California, my S4 spent two years in Minnesota before I heading west. The S4 is a FANTASTIC car for Minnesota winters. Put some good snow tires on and enjoy!

Awesome! Great combo! If you found the S6 heavy I'm surprised you didn't feel the same way about the 5 series... heavy and soft.
Enjoy the car - you will be even more impressed with it in the snow - just make sure you get some proper snow tires for it!

I just noticed you were in MSP! I'm local here as well. Feel free to reach out directly to me if you have any questions about the car...
BTW _ nice garage set up - very similar to mine

    Congrats!

I actually just went from a '15 S4 to a 991.1 C2S since I no longer needed a daily driver. The S4 is a great "snow mobile" and the low-end torque is awesome.

I see an Alfa badge in that German man cave. Story there? As they say, you can't call yourself a true "car guy" if you have never owned an Alfa.

Good eye. Yes, I did own an Alfa back in the day. It was an '85 GTV6. Red of course. LOVED that car, but it broke constantly. Many crazy stories about that car. Like the time it dumped coolant all over my friends feet in the passenger footwell then totally overheated at a bust intersection. That was fun. Or the fact that to doors didn't stay closed in the winters. I used the seat belts to wrap though the door handles to keep them closed. Or the fact that I had to scrape the outside and INSIDE of the windshield every morning in the winter. There's many more but you get the idea.. I'm sticking with the Germans where it also gets cold in the winter...

Yep. The 5 series is a bit of a pig too. It's great if you just want to get somewhere but I never WANTED to drive it. It's a very nice transportation appliance. End of story. This S4 is EPIC. Feels like a Porsche 911 sedan. I WANT to get in and drive this car! Go to C&C Mr Funk? One left this year. Oh and let's see your garage shot!

I haven't been to C&C in years. If the last one is this sat I won't make it - unfortunately headed out of town...
The old 5 series used to benchmark the drivers car for sedans but in recent years they have gone really soft. Same with 3 series too... certainly a nice car but not a memorable experience.
I'm guessing you have a 3rd stall in your garage? Wish I had more space... here's a shot of my bud giving his C4S a bath in it.

Nice. I've heard those later V6 cars were a nightmare. I had a '69 GTV myself as a daily driver for about 8 years. No crazy break down stories - it was actually amazingly solid, but I stayed on top of it. Looked exactly like this one:

    Still regret selling it...

Enjoy the S4. Definitely recommend adding an aftermarket exhaust to give it some "voce".

YES! Ac Motors. Good guys. No hassle at all. I did get some wiggle on price. I think this was a very good deal at $35K. Just had to peel a LOT of Plastic Dip that covered anything shinny. I've also ordered new matt chrome mirror covers as the previous owner spray painted them black. AC did a very nice job fixing it up though. Making it presentable. It's TOTALLY loaded.

WOW! Pretty car. Mine was never that pretty. The mid eighties GTV6's looked like an Italian Scirocco. (BTW I had 3 of those) I'll bet you miss that GTV. Gotta be tough to find another one of those in any sort of presentable shape.

Can't believe you drove the S6 and the S4 and chose the S4! Saved you a pretty penny though.

    Congrats on the purchase!

Congrats! Looks like an awesome car. I got my 2013 two years ago and absolutely love it.

Any of you Minneapolis guys have AWE exhaust? That's my next mod and I'm on the fence as to 90mm vs 102mm tips. Would love to be able to see what they look like in person to help my decision.

The S4 feels like a 911 sedan? Are you drunk, sir?!

The only things the two cars have in common are four wheels, six cylinders, and German badges...

Yep. Saved at least $9K and the S6 had twice the miles (50K). I just liked the S4 to be totally honest. It's smaller, (a plus to me) and a lot more chuckable. The S6 was a freight train on the highway though. If the S4 wasn't there I'm sure I would have bought that S6 and I'd be on the S6 board right now! Thanks Mickey!
