Derby car

I'm wondering if anyone has built a derby car with a a4 befor I have 2 options a 03 a4 avant 1.8t auto and a 98 a 2.8 b5 sedan auto but the sub frame is rotten. I've always been interested in it and am going to start stripping this weekend, I'm just looking for any pointers thanks

A small part of me died when I read this. The B6 is just.... too new for this I guess. Or I'm too old. But yeah, I vote the Avant. Station wagons always seem to kick ass in the demo derby.

Also in Portland a derby car is generally for a very different type of race. In those races, funny pants are pretty much mandatory.

Also, its held on an extinct volcano, speeds up to 50 mph are possible.

Yea I'll strip the car air bags carpets glass ect try and strength the rad support since its plastic/Fiberglas slam some steel wheels on her and hope for the best. I have to many audi at the moment and not enough space I tried to sell the avant but no bites so I think Quattro will be strong in a smash up derby

Update
when I first bought the car August 13 I had it and the b5 moved to a storage yard, I called the yard and had the wagon moved out so I could take it the yard hours are 8-5 and my hours are 8-5 so I need a better place to work on the car, I convinced my parents to let me build the car at there house since I live in an apartment, I went to the car dead battery no booster cables drive to Canadian tire bought a set booster car it fires up dead miss, I got 2 extra in my b5 so I swapped coil and she runs like a champ ( first time driving car) drove her 30k to my parents were ill be starting the strip down Friday

Well drove to my parents and fired the a4 up drove her around the block up the alley and in to my parents back yard, I figured I start by stripping my the inside from the back to the front. I removed the trim along the back sides the spare tire and the tray, I then removed the rear seat bottom and then the rear seat backs. I attempted to remove the front seats but I left my triple drives at work which I will get tomorrow, I started to take the centre console out but only managed to get the rear of it to lift up I'll continue tomorrow with it

Quattro will be good for the derby, but not sure how rest of car will handle it. Something like a Volvo will be like a tank. Local guy to me races in the Lemons. Like the La Mans, but an endurance race for Lemons. When he first told me this I started laughing like a little school girl that just seen her first male penis (classic analogies die hard). Anyways, you may want to look into some kind of local similar event if you are into this stuff.

I have "built" a few derby cars in my distant past. The biggest problem with derby cars is the damage that occurs on a front end collision. Protect it as much as possible and do all your damage by backing into your opponents. All it takes is one hit on the front end and the radiator gets smashed. It doesn't take long from there to shut you down.

We used to chain the engine to the frame to keep it from moving. The motor mounts can only do so much to keep the engine in place. We also filled the tires with sand. I think that it is no longer allowed but check your local derby rules to see if it is specifically excluded. Can't do much damage once your tires are flat.

The car has its fair share of problems it was sitting in a car impound costing me money every month that's why I decided to start making a derby car the cost to put it back on the road were more then the value of the car and I wanna see how well it will hold up, I wanted to do the b5 but the subframe is extremely rotted having 5 a4's it was time to get ride of one. Like it or not I wanna see how it holds up I only paid 400 for the car.

Well the time has come we did the first heat 15 cars and we got 4 we blew the boost hose off and had no power got stuck on another car, here what she look like after first heat the side of the rad tank blew apart we had a hug coolant leak we filled it with water fixed the boost leak and we hoped for the best, there was 14 cars this time and we placed 2 we broke the left front axle and the upper arms broke on the right side causing the axle to pop apart. The car will drive with 3 axles but not 2 and it left us stranded, we ran her for a total of approx 40min with no coolant and she still ran like a top beside not being able to move I was very impressed with the car and we had 80% of the other derby car drivers say WOW I can't believe you are derbing a Audi and HOLY F@@@ THAT CAR TAKES A BEATING AND STILL GOES

Personal experience is that the aluminum multi link front suspension does not like being hit. Wow that took a beating!

I am going to keep the car and put new axles in and make new controll arms do a Rad bypass and run it next year, I knew the car was strong but it was a lot stronger then we thought. The car was to good for a junk yard but needed to much stuff to put on road, I attempted to part it out and in 2 months there was only one offer and he wanted to give me 50 for the whole car, the car was in storage and was starting to just rack up a crazy storage fee, I always have loved audis and just wondered how it was going to hold up. I was very impressed and so was the crowed. We had never built or drove in a derby and we placed second I think next year is going to be first place and take home the trophy and the $1200 prize.
