So I bought a 2005.5 quattro a4 with 160k about 2 months ago (for $3500 if anyone is interested). Was looking for something lower miles, but the owner had plenty of maintenance records (New Turbo within 15k, New timing belt within 15k, full brakes within 10k, walnut shells 40k ago). Anyways, one of the reasons we got it quite a bit under asking price was because it had (a slight oil leak). Which I figured I could find and fix, worse case it's the oil pan.
Well, we drove it back, and within a few days of buying it, it started losing lots of power, didn't feel like there was any boost, and it started burning/using more and more oil (the last we drove it, it was literally 1 quart in 200-300 miles).
Well, I did some quick easy research, pulled the oil filler cap and felt the suction, so failed PCV it was.
Last night, went though and replaced the failed PCV with the BSH block off plate, replaced the ignition coils and plugs. Then.... removed the 3 rubber air hoses (turbo to intercooler #1, frame/metal piping to intercooler #2, intercooler #2 to throttle body) and WOW. Without exaggerating, between 1 and 1.5 quarts of oil ran out of the bottom hoses. I left the hoses off for a while while cleaning, to let it drain, then cleaned out the piping best I could before getting everything else bolted back up.
Well, my question is: what did you othe PCV failure guys do about all the oil caught through the system? Replace intercoolers? Remove them and clean? Spray carb cleaner through them? I do plan on taking the hoses back off in a week or so to clean again, then again after a month, just to see how much oil is still in the system.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. As of now the car is better, but am getting a misfire in cylinder 2, I swapped coils and plugs around and can confirm it is cylinder 2, now debating whether I should pull the manifold to replace/upgrade the injectors or try to track down the ignition control module? I don't have any time to work on it for a while, so time to come up with a plan, but that's the update. Thanks for reading!
