Has anyone done this swap? Looks like you need:

    The 01E,
the rear diff because you need 4.11,
    driveshaft (shorter)
    front shafts (also shorter?)
    linkage / shifter

Anything else? is it geared too long for 1.8T?

Just thinking if my 01A is indeed croaking... I can probably get a wrecked early 3.0 for cheap, take the driveline and real leather seats...

Or is a later 1.8T 6spd a better idea (02X)? Maybe harder to find here. What is needed to swap it?

I don't really know the heritage of 02X, is it stronger than 01A?

The 02X is weaker, being a 4 cyl. transmission. If you're building a powerful engine, go for the 01E because it's a 6 cyl. transmission. I did 01A to 02X, and I needed:
    -trans
    -driveshaft
    -rear diff
    -shift linkage

With the shift linkage, you can only take out the parts that you need, I just changed out the whole shift box, it was a lot easier as you just have to take 4 nuts off from the inside.

On the note of the 01E, I'm not sure what you need. All I know is that my cousin has one in his c5 allroad, and my rpms (with the 02x) are much lower than his.
