First of all I am new here so I apologize if this is the wrong forum to post this question in.
I have an old 1999 Audi A4 quattro 1.8L.
It was having different issues, but nothing related to transmission slipping up until After I had taken it to the shop. Then, the same day that I go to pick up the car, its having transmission issues such as when changing gears from 1 to 2, the car would basically rev up but the gear would not change, and then it would literally jolt into the new gear. Again, this did not happen before I took the car into the shop and if this was the case, I would have requested service on it first thing instead of the service that I requested below:
These are the repairs I request and they were done(some actually created another problem):
Headlamp assembly (used)
Outer tie rods
Rack and Pinion
Window regulator rivets (my front passenger window motor was not working)
Window regulator
Control arm bolt kit
Control arm_Frt/Rt/Uppr/Rear
Wheel bearing kit
Shop Supplies
The car was in the shop for a little over a week. Got it back this past Tuesday. As soon as I drove the car off, the transmission starts slipping. The car REVS up as if going faster on the speedometer but it doesn't kick into the 2nd gear without a big jolt. The car NEVER did that prior to me taking it to that shop and I NEVER requested any work on the transmission. The car goes fine after gear 1 and 2 but its jolting violently when turning into those gears. IF there were any of these problems, I would have requested those repairs as first priority and would not have spent a dime on a headlamp assembly or the window regulator (they were problems I could do without, the headlamp was working fine, its two plastics snaps to hold it in place were broken, nothing of actual damage on the headlamp assembly).
When I got back the mechanic said to give it some time to warm up a little and then go. I did that, and the car was only fine when I had to manually let my foot off the pedal when the car is about to shift into gear 1 and then 2. The car shifts fine to gear 3 and above.
The thing that's driving me nuts is that the jolting and the revving never happened prior to me taking the car to the shop. And of course those would have been the first problems I would have taken care of had they were happening.
Just today I also discovered that the window that they repaired works perfectly fine, but the door doesn't open from the inside. The lock goes up when you turn the handle, but the door doesn't open at all from the inside. This got me thinking that they don't know what the hell they are doing. They fixed one problem but created another. I am taking the car back tomorrow.
On another note, the car's transmission is probably done by now, its jolting every now and then and warming up the car isn't going to do anything I'm assuming. I am no expert on this so I have no idea how to handle this situation. This shop has about 6 5-star reviews on Yelp and I haven't found a single negative or less than 5 star review.
What is the best course of action? Also, is the car done? I got it used about 3 years ago at around 68k. Right now it has about 85k miles on it. The manual says nothing about transmission fluid, changing it, checking it (you can't, its a sealed transmission), so I am not sure what to do.
SO sorry for the long post, but its really the first time I've had a car problem like this right after coming out of the shop.
Please help.
