    ECM Software Recall 2016-09-21

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Just picked up my 2015 from 25k mile service.

    Line item on paperwork:

    1 24CO 2016-09-21 W-RECALL - ECM Software 01 Open
    FC: 24C099 002

Service manager mentioned they'd be doing the update, said it was to address shifting smoothness. (DSG car) Judging by the date, seems it was released yesterday, the 21st.

Only drove it a short distance so far, didn't really notice any change. I'll play a little after work.

FWIW, some of my vagcom tweaks are still intact, others aren't. (i.e., no warning when inputting destination into GPS while moving still in place, but windows-down-when-hold-unlock is gone.)

Those who are tuned and want to avoid TD1, beware. Though it seems Audi hadn't scanned ECU as part of fluid-change maintenance in the past, this recall might change that.

Will this affect TCU Tune and I'm already out of warrenty so should I get it anyway?

    ECM Software Recall 2016-09-21

I just sent my car to the dealer for maintenance. My car is flashed EPL stage 2 but I flashed it back to stock before the visit. My adviser said he was going to do this software recall update.
Let's see when I pick my car up today or tomorrow if it's TD1'ed.

I don't have any tunes on my car, so I can't answer.

I'm wondering if Audi picked up on the (relatively) new emergence of B8 S4 TCU tunes and decided to get ahead of any potential bad press. Or maybe they saw an opportunity to prolong the DSG's lifespan with a software tweak. Who knows.

Is this update just for the b8.5's? Or b8's qualify as well.

I Dropped my car off at the dealer this morning for the ECP 4k RPM issue. Service manager said they were doing this update to the car.

Just out scrounging around and saw a post of one of the S5 forums where owners of 2013 S5's were already receiving recall letters for this same campaign back in June of this year. Description of the letters and recall sounds exactly the same as this one.

Kind of weak that I was told by the service manager that the update was to improve shifting smoothness.

"I'm not sure, let me find out" is better than incorrect information.

Basically what this, does is,making sure we don't get check engine light if cats, are spewing more dirt into the air, hymmm they haven't paid enough in VWGATE lol, it could be a good thing if we push our engines to the limits, with tunes, less emissions errors less headaches for us

He might have been thinking of the AS24 update for B8 DSG cars which was for shifting smoothness.

That said, this update seems to be Audi's way to pay less for warranty work due to CAT failures. Audi doesn't fix anything without an ECM error codes. So, while your CATs are supposed to be warrantied past the basic Audi warranty due to government regulations, when you start getting engine misfires due to a failing CAT, you'll bring your car in and they'll now see codes for a misfire but NOT for a failing CAT efficiency, so you'll be spending money for diags until the tech finally stumbles across the failing CAT and then they just warranty that but not all the rest of the work the idiot Audi tech did because he couldn't think outside the box and know what was causing the issue without the additional code. So yeah, I don't believe this is for your benefit but for Aud's. Additionally, they'll also dodge a lot of CAT replacements for efficiency issues on cars that may not be also experiencing misfire issues, because now it'll take longer for those codes to trip. Yay! NOT!

I will say one thing. The only way this could be a good thing is if the CAT efficiency codes or logic was set too tight and when that happens, the ECM adjusts fueling to combat it and inturn causes the misfires to happen, then that's the only way this could be a good thing they adjusted.

Don't think it's just for DSG, I took my A6 in today for some warranty work, and I saw he wrote down ECM update as one of the item.

    Hi Guys,

I had exactly this 24C0 action code few months ago here in europe (i have an early 2012 B8.5)
I did not know what this action did, BUT:

    - It changes some what the ECU soft code : 551B / 0003--> 551D / 0004

So, for those who are tuned and flash back to stock before this audi action, be prepared to not be simply able to flash back your tune after that.
May be all guys with flash at home solution also will face some issues. May be could you ask before in order to anticipate problems ?

I had issues when i was APR stage 1 when returning to flash it back : Nothing matched anymore, then the apr server told "no productio file" . Then, no news from APR reps here in France for months...
Then... i swithed to MRC stage 2

    Cheers,

    Mat

Just got the same recall mail today. Debating to do it. Car is not tuned but have other things such as DSR disabled for steering issues and few other small things like lowering/raising windows with remote, headlight on while using turn signal etc. A fellow audizine member with VAG did it for me while back and don't want to deal with it again.

I just picked my car up after they did the update. All the vag mods are still there.

    ECM Software Recall 2016-09-21

Guys, I just picked my car up after the ecm update. My car has intake exhaust and EPL stage 2 (flashed to stock before visit of course). So far so good, didn't get td1'd.

Just in case anyone wants to see what it looks like on the paperwork:

    Hello,

I would say: make this update before going to APR stage 1.
If i understood well, when you are APR flashed, the APR server saves your exact original ECU software in order to perfectly manage avoiding TD1 issues.
So, if you go stage 1, then flash back to stock, then do this update, when you will be back to re flash stage1, the APR server will not recognize your ECU soft code, thus not allowing you to return stage 1.
This happened to me (see my story in your quote), but i think it is mainly because APR representation and customer service, here in France, is totally rubbish...

    Best regards,

    Mat

I'm going to call my advisor today during lunch and see what she has to say about the recall.

Haven't seen this link posted but for those who are unsure if this applies to them you can check it here: Audi Recall Services by VIN

Mine has the same action code: 24CO

Got my car back, I did noticed that my car runs hotter after the ECM update. Before it usually at around 202F, today it reaches 215F..driving condition is the same. I meant engine oil temperature.

Was at the dealer today for the 35K service. They wanted to do the update. I asked if the update would wipe out my Vag mods like the one's you have.
The SA asked the tech who works on my car. They said it would definitely wipe them out. I declined the update.

For those that have not experienced any issues or problems associated with the catalytic converter diagnostic thresholds in the ECU programming, seems it would not be unreasonable to say "Thanks, but no thanks. If the issue presents itself down the road, I will be in for the ECU update."
