Question for K04 Owners with 6MT

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
This is my first post on this forum, so I apologize if I missed something while searching on this topic. I am curious to know if any B8 A4 owners that are running a K04 setup that have a 6MT have upgraded their clutch but RETAINED the OEM Flywheel, without problems. I have found bits and pieces of information on this forum, but not a comprehensive, concrete answer as to whether or not the OEM flywheel can hold up to K04 levels of torque. Also, to those who have upgraded to a SMF, how bad is the chatter, and which brands are the best for avoiding chatter (Or at least minimizing it).

Revo recommends it but its not required, as long as you dont do launch after launch itll be fine.

Everything I know about the torque on a k04 says it's just about the same as a k03 with stage 2. The real diff is in hp higher in the rpm range. Therefore it seems logical to conclude that if the 6mt can handle stg2 it can handle a k04.

Anyone else have success running K04 on the stock flywheel? The more opinions on this the better! It's the difference between keeping my stock flywheel or spending $1000 on a SMF! Any input would be HUGELY appreciated!

SMF will murder your transmission. I wouldn't do it.

My stage 2 tune ruined my stock clutch after a year, but that was also after 100,000 miles. I now have a spec stage 2+ clutch and new oem flywheel. I can peg the throttle and drop the clutch and it hooks up without any slip. It is a great combination and just feels a bit stiffer than stock, but a lot more connected.
