    The New Daily - 1.8TQM 😎

What's up guys and gals? I've been on this forum for about 8 years now but mostly in the B6 A4 section because I picked up my first Audi in 2008. It's a 2005 1.8TQM with full Revo Stage 2+ and various other OEM+ mods. It was my daily for the past eight years. However, because my father's daily crapped the bed, he purchased it from me and now enjoys it. (It's currently sitting on 18" Peelers but I don't have pictures)

A couple years ago, I bought a 2000 Hibiscus Red S4 EPL Stage 2 to flip and I drove it around for a year and did routine maintenance and then sold it to another member on here (jimmer009 I believe his name is). What a great car that was.

After I sold the S4, I picked up a 350Z to flip as well but I ended up loving that car (it's still for sale though). So after a year of juggling the B6 and the Z, I decided to pick up a B5 as a daily to keep the miles off the Z. I found a clean, solid, well taken care of 2001 1.8TQM for a great deal locally with 188k on it. Clutch feels strong but there's no record of it being changed. It has several chips on the front bumper and hood from highway driving as well as the dreaded driver seat rear but the interior is mint and the exterior is in good shape for a 15-year-old car. Anyone have a spare silver hood or driver side fender or passenger side fog light grille? I do have some plans for it (not as much as the B6) but I want to make sure the car is 100% in the maintenance department. It has a CEL for P0030 (Heater Control Circuit Bank 1 Sensor 1) & P0135 (O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction). I already ordered the Bosch OEM O2 sensor 17090 that will be here shortly so I'll report my findings once I swap that out. Any other ideas for these codes? I searched but changing the O2 sensor seems to be the general consensus. I also have plans for a timing belt/water pump service and a complete fluid flush in the near future. I picked up some B6 sport wheels with decent tires locally for dirt cheap and I ordered an RS4 front grille. As always, pics for clicks. Thanks for reading

Some nice history here! That hibiscus though.. Love the color.

The a4 looks like a real nice clean slate for some fun. Looking forward to what you do with it.

So i changed the O2 sensor yesterday and cleared the codes. After running some errands today and about 13 miles later, the CEL came back on but for P0420 (Cat inefficiency). I cleared it today and I'll report back to see how long it takes to come back on. But any ideas on what I can do? I have an 034 HFC on my B6 and it occasionally throws the same code but once every 8 months or so. Any ideas?

Personally I wouldn't worry about a cat efficiency code all that much, but a replacement wouldn't hurt anything. If the cat is coming apart inside it's a different story, you don't want that stuff somehow getting into your turbine housing. On my old B5 my chip turned off the inefficiency code but I always ran a test pipe so it's kind of a moot point.

Well I have to pass emissions very soon so I need that CEL to be off. I went today because I cleared the code and drove 25 miles but the car was still not set to readiness. I will drive it another 50 miles today and see if it comes back on but if it does come back on, should I get another cat or just change the secondary o2 sensor or put a spacer on the secondary sensor?

    The New Daily - 1.8TQM 😎

I don't have any experience with emissions testing but wouldn't they flag a spacer? It's pretty noticeable.

I don't think a new o2 sensor will fix your issue, that code means that the cat isn't filtering out what it's supposed to. Either get a replacement cat or a HFC

I'll try the cheapest solution first (non fouler) and then the cat. Someone locally is selling a dp/cat with sensors for $100

I installed an o2 spacer that I had laying around from 034 motorsports so I installed that on my rear sensor. The CEL was off for about 30 miles before that and it's still off but I'm getting a stored code of p0036 and p0136 (Bank 1 Sensor 2 heater circuit). Should I drive it till the CEL comes on and then reset it? Is it caused by the spacer or is the sensor just bad? I'm on stock tune by the way.

Alright quick update the CEL came back on for the secondary O2 sensor. I ordered a new Bosch sensor and am looking to replace my Cat. Since I'm keeping this car stock, I want to get an OEM equivalent one and not deal with any tunes to code out anything. So any advice on where or what I should look for? Are the universal cats on Ebay any good for $130? Is it worth it to buy a used cat for ~$100 with some miles on it?

Little update...a new secondary o2 sensor fixed my issue and I passed NYS inspection. Time to do some routine maintenance and drive the hell out of this thing. First up is an oil change with Mobil 1 0W-40/Mann oil filter.
