2012 Audi S4 stolen in L.I.C.

On my wife's bday last month my S4 was hit by a drunk driver, had it at a body shop in long island city and it was scheduled to be returned to me this afternoon. Unfortunately, this morning, around 9am it was stolen from that body shop and i'm posting pictures of it here just in-case its spotted. I posted something similar in the past in a bunch of forums for a friend who has his SC300 stolen in Newark and someone spotted it and was able to have the car returned to him. Do you have more details how it was stolen? We're the keys taken from the auto body or was it put on a flatbed or hot wired?

Seems suspicious that right after it was fixed it was stolen. I'm sure the auto body has plenty of cameras. Sounds like an inside job to me.

I'll keep my eyes peeled but probably already in a Newark shipping container. :(

The tech was moving around cars to get mine in for a wet sand and polish. The shop manager says they are all instructed to shut the vehicles off and remove the keys but this one tech left the keys in my car. On the security camera you see the guy walk up alongside and walk around the S4. Then he looks around for about 15 seconds and jumps in and takes off.

They've already admitted to negligence. My problem is that i have a legal plan through my job and i had no problem when i used them to source an attorney for my home closing. Now i'm trying to seek legal advice from an in-network attorney and their telling me that i can't use their service because I already have previous protection through full coverage on my auto insurance.

If it wasn't for the shop employee's negligence I wouldn't be out of a car and all the money for the extra parts. I may just pay out of pocket and seek legal advice because I have no clue if only my car's value is entitled to me or if there is room for additional compensation for all this headache.

Your best bet would be to just wait the 60 days and get blue book value if you cant find the car. I think its either already parted out, in a garage ready to get shipped somewhere, or maybe the asshole is still joyriding it but i doubt it.

Shop should be insured for this. If you have receipts for the upgrades, inquire within with proof of purchases to the body shop to see if their insurance company will compensate. If not, you may save time and attorney fees by asking your insurance call their insurance if they are not willing to compensate (depending on your insurance company ethics). Well, at least see what your insurance can do do get you fully compensated before spending money. Ask the body shop with receipts in hand, first.

Got a phone call early this morning while leaving for work. The cops came across the car with the thief driving. He got out and tried to run, they tackled him and arrested him. One of the arresting officers has a B8 A4 in which he is currently working on a K04 setup. Extremely polite and nice group at the Midtown precinct.

As for the car, as far as i can see after a quick look over, it looks like minimal damage. Scratches and some slight damage to the front under carriage as it looks like he bottomed out. The driver seat leather has some scratches and digs, the steering wheel has some scratches and digs and there is a warning indicator for headlight range malfunction. He emptied everything from the glovebox, trunk and armrest. He then hung his own air freshners from the rearview mirror, had his own cell phone charger with usb cables and a pair of sunglasses in the arm rest area, couple of cds and another one in the MMi disc reader and used the navigation to route himself to Astoria park. He put about 1,000 miles on the car since it was stolen on 9/21 and he practically had the car as if it was his. My registration, plates, audizine plate frames, work parking permit remained on the car.

My question is, now that the car has a stolen history the value must drop dramatically? I will have to ask the insurance company how to handle a diminished claim value for this matter, i'm assuming?

I am glad the thief was caught. Bastard needs to be thrown behind bars. He lived the moment and karma caught up with him. I am not sure whether to feel glad that you got your car back because it is no longer the same with all the nicks, scratches, and other marks that the culprit left. Someone already adulterated it and it will never be the same again. I do wish you well and I will be happy for you if you do continue showering your S4 with the same attention and care before it got stolen.

I do plan on continuing to treat it with lots of love. I'm only worried about the 1k miles of abuse and if it causes any issues to come up over the next 15 or so thousand miles because we know the issues might not be obvious as yet.

I always waited for the oil temp to cross the 180's before applying full throttle. I would bet that the thief would beat the crap out of it right from startup.

I'll be sure to post of any significant updates.

Funny thing is that the kid shirt say Flight Risk on it. No problem man, it's my job and by luck he drove by my car that has a license plate reader on it. He gonna be put away for a while for boosting. It's rewarding that I can make you and your wife a little happier to get your baby back. Cause I'm an Audi lover myself.
