I've been researching Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires. Those are highest rated on Tirerack. They make a 285/35/21.

What size Mickey Thompson tires are you running? Do you try to a burn out?

Are you going for track focused tire? If your ultimate goal is to run faster times at the track, the PSS is not the best tire. That being said, I don't know what the best tire will be, but you're going to have to deal with trade-offs such as noise when running a track ready tire.

You aren't going to find a quieter tire that will cut better times at the track. Michelin pilot SS will prob be your best in between as far as comfort, grip, and less road noise

PSS for a great, every day tire
Not sure if they make Cup2s in this size, but they're a dream on my GT3RS... best tires ive ever had. Not enough first-hand experience on wear, but I hear not amazing. Designed for the track.

I am super interested in this topic as well, i know Dads Rs7 the current US 1/4mile holder ran 10.3 with Pilot sport cup 2.

I am currently running Pss 265/35/20 and very keen to try cup2 on 295/30/20 on my S7.

I am getting bad 60ft on 265 pss at the moment (1.8+) as too much wheel spin off the line.

    My current best is 11.13

If you're that concerned with quarter mile traction, why not get light rims in the smallest possible diameter with slicks?

I have Hankook RS3 v2 in 285/35/20 and they work well. All around a great tire for the money. Definitely noisier than MPSS, but I don't think it's as bad as say R888s. Got to be careful with wheel offset though, 20x10 on ET25 rubs occasionally. I would probably go with 20x10 ET30 or ET32 if I were to do it again.

They are on oponeo.co.uk as well at £288 but go to www.michelin.co.uk and they only have 275/35/21 in PS4's and if you put an RS7 in their configurator it says they don't do tyres for the car

The Michelin configurator is not up to date and quite ofter just plain wrong. (like most tire/tyre configurators.

Still, they are 58% more (£106) expensive over Sportmaxx GT's for slightly better fuel economy, marginally better wet handling but worse road noise seemingly. May wait until the price has stabilised or when the GT's run out that I have.

Damn son, that a nice looking setup and wide tire for all 4 corners, been looking for lowering links though most all seem adjustable. Is that correct or is there just certain set ones you install and your done?

rs7 owners what is the best performance tires out there ?

I also ran that exact setup. With the 25 profile, there was virtually no rubbing. What rubbing there was went away--no doubt filed off.

I had a few issues with bent wheels so I went for a 20" setup instead. The 21s wore Michelin Pilot Supersports 295/25/21, the 20s I now have wear Pilot 4Ss at 295/30/20. Both setups were 295 at all for corners and aside from tracking road grooves a bit, there are no problems. You can see the description of my current setup in my sig line.

It's tough to compare the two Michelin tires since they're both so good. If I was to nitpick, I think I'd say the P4Ss are a little noisier in spite of Michelin's claims... but neither are bad in that respect.

Here are a few pics of the new setup mounted:

// EDIT: I found a few pics of the 21" setup which is I think where you're leaning though I can't find any close-ups

The car is lowered now in the pics with the 20s but on stock springs below.

I never found the 21s to be harsh and the same is true of the 20s.

That said, it's difficult for me to provide a reasonable comparison since, within a few days of getting the 20s, I hated the stance so much I bought the KW springs and lowered the car which obviously affects the ride. Even now, though, it's still not uncomfortable when the springs are at their most forgiving. If I put it in Dynamic then it's firm to say the least, I'm not embellishing too much when I say I can feel the paint on the road... hence I drive in Comfort more often than not.

I think the primary takeaway is neither setup is particularly rough. I've hit a couple of potholes since having the new wheels and the extra tirewall helps out in making that a less jarring experience.

Nothing is better for wear, and general performance than Pilot Super Sports. They are expensive though, and there are some other tires such as the Hankook Ventus V12 that are almost a good at a much cheaper price. Perelli are fine but I find them to be way overpriced and out performed by a lot of other tires. Continentals are in my opinion better than P-zero but also very expensive.

I've actually typically purchased slightly used pilot sports for all of my cars. I'm going with the Hankooks for a brand new set on my RS7. They are rated high for all categories, and are not noisy like pilot sports.

I'll chime in here since Canuck hasn't as yet: when I ran this setup with the stock Audi DRC springs, it rubbed briefly but only at full lock; that eventually subsided. If the car was lowered, too, I'd expect the rubbing to worsen... possibly too much.

Going down an inch in diameter while increasing the tire profile to 30 effectively returns about 10mm to play with wrt/ lowering. My car is now lowered and, as I noted earlier, did rub in the same minor way but has also subsided now.

That said, with air suspension, the lowering potential is huge--able to go full on gangsta'--I don't have air suspension so my input may be moot.
