    Center armrest mount

I have an '02 B6 sedan whose armrest wobbles side-to-side. I removed the rear ashtray to tighten the mounting nut and found it is fully tightened. The stud or bolt that the nut holds the armrest to is unstable. Does anyone know what's involved in getting into this?

That stud is set into an aluminum housing, the aluminum housing is attached with nuts to 3 studs that are set in the tunnel. Is the housing moving, or just the stud that is set into it? If the stud is moving and not the housing, you probably need to replace the housing. Not sure if that stud is welded into the housing or if is is threaded, but you can remove the three huts holding the housing to the tunnel and look underneath it to assess what is going on at the bottom of the stud.

If the housing is moving, you just need to make sure the 3 nuts securing it to the tunnel are secure/tight.

Well, that was interesting. Pulled the armrest to inspect the aluminum subframe/housing and found the stud on top was indeed loose. Put it back together, and the stud seated properly and snugged up. Nicey nice! Gracias.
