    Subwoofer rattle

    Hey guys,

I'm not an audiophile but I do like a good sounding system. I know a lot of people don't like the B&O in this car but i don't mind it. Today I noticed a rattle listening to some new music. I tracked it back to the B&O sub in the trunk. Is some rattle normal in this system under heavy bass or should I have the dealer look at it (if so how much push back should I expect)? I don't have my volume past 20 but it was noticeable below that also. I played a video to test certain frequencies and it is very noticeable at 40Hz. Thanks for the help guys. I am still under factory warranty too.

I just had one of my outside door handles replaced for rattling with the sub.

They didn't argue at all or question my aftermarket sub. I just told them how to reproduce it, they did and issued a replacement.

FWIW, I replaced my B&O sub with a larger Pioneer one and laid down some sound dampening mats.

There isn't much near the sub to rattle, I would check the covers on the back deck and those on the C pillars.

I tried holding down the back deck, the rear seats and latches etc and couldn't stop the rattle. I opened the trunk and the best i can tell, it is the sub itself rattling, like a resonant frequency. Is this a sign that it is blown?

If you can reproduce the rattle I would take it in while you are still under warranty.

If the sub is toast and they won't replace it you can have my old one if you cover the shipping costs.

    ---------------------------------------------

Here is the stock sub out of the housing:

There are four screws that hold it in under the speaker cover.

The speaker cover itself just pops right out, you can use a credit card to get it started.

Once that is off, you will need to disconnect the tweeter speaker and you should have full access to those screws to tighten them.

Here is a short DIY, if you follow the first post you should be able to get a better idea of what is rattling.

There is no need to remove the C pillar covers for now unless you want to pull the full back deck.

Which speaker did you go with? Did you simply replace the speaker or did you change the amp too?

    Here are some instructions:

    Here is what I ordered:
Pioneer TSW261D4 10-Inch Champion - $42 from the Amazon Warehouse
    10" Speaker Spacer - $7 from Amazon
GTMAT Sound Dampening Kit -$23 From Amazon

I will let you know what I think once I get it installed next week.
I kept the stock amp. It is still not nearly as punchy as I would like it but it is WAYYY better especially for <$80 and an hour of work.

I am sure it is blown now. It is unmistakably shaking and if I turn off the sub in the MMI the problem goes away. I will make an appointment with the dealer for Monday, they should replace it but if not ill contact you whiped.
