Angry Just venting. Q5 recall repairs and then some.

So Monday I dropped off my Q5 for the oil consumption rebuild/recall.
I just get a call on the recommended repairs they found during the tear down.
    Piston connecting rod bearings.
Timing chain since it's at 5.5 and tensioner.
Turbo, linkage is loose and not functioning properly affecting waste gate.

Total cost out of pocket. $2810

This cost is just for parts since everything is currently torn apart.

My current thought is hopefully nothing major could go wrong with it for another 4 years and I would be happy with that.

Told the wife she will have to drive this Q5 for at least another 6 years.

I know I will be needing new brakes and rotors within the next few months, but that is ok.

Most of that is going to be going toward your turbo; which is about $1,600 from the dealer for the turbo alone, but there's a VIN specific TSB for this as well. Call AoA to confirm if you're eligible; if not, I would take a look into an indy or doing it yourself, because a used turbo can be had for about $500. When I had my oil consumption taken care of, the connecting rod bearings were part of the warranty repair, so I was not charged. I would do the timing with the dealer, because its probably about $450, and far cheaper than if you did it separately, or it fails.

If everything is apart, I would get a used turbo from a 2012+ and have them install that back on it. Paying for a new turbo when the old turbos are failing due to build problem seems crappy. Audi should be giving a warranting them for longer before they get another class action suit for them also.
The update to the chain is nice and maybe 2mm smaller but your old chain will last just fine as long as you update the tensioner. I would also make sure you get a new can bridge depending on what year yours is.

buy aftermarket or from other retailers, if you have VAG part numbers I can get OEM parts for you as well. anything to cut the bill down LMK if i can be of assistance!

Also check out www.genuineaudiparts.com they are not affiliated with audi san diego but all their parts seem to come from audi san diego, and they usually are almost at wholesale price. Will be much below what the dealer is charging you, i can guarantee that!

Unfortunately I'm not able to purchase any parts since they currently have my Q5 in pieces.
I was going through a bunch of papers on my desk and found a 10% off coupon for the dealer.

I'd tell you to go on TDIClub and buy a bunch of the Goodwill cards that people are selling in the classifieds, but they may say something about using a bunch of cards with different names on them.

Those Audi gift cards are non transferable. So, don't buy them from anyone.

Good thing you blocked out that customer number. . .wouldn't want someone else paying that bill.
