I'm in the middle of doing the timing service + cam adjuster sprockets. Engine is the BAS (from an Allroad), but is the same as the BBK, and this forum is where most of the engine discussion happens.

I need to remove the sealing flange to fix a coolant leak that's coming from a passage that runs between the block and the sealing flange. The sealing flange is the part that contains the lower crank bearings. I'm wondering if there is someone out there who has done this before who might have some useful information. Unfortunately the Bentley manual is pretty slim on detail besides the torqueing sequence and where sealant needs to go. I've done this stuff on other engines, so I'm happy with the basics. I'm just worried there might be something that's going to burn me if I don't know in advance.

Engine is currently on a stand upside down. Lower and upper oil pans, all rear plates, chains, tensioners etc removed. Oil pump and accessory drive gearbox just about to come off.

Thanks in advance.
