MIR Track Rental Friday 10/28/16

Now that the weather is cooling off I decided to rent both lanes at the best track around, MIR. One line will be for drag radials and slicks only. Other lane will be for street tire cars. Cost will be $100/car for unlimited runs from 9am-5pm (track isn't usually prepped and ready to go until around 10am). If you don't like waiting in long lines at test and tunes and want tons of runs to practice this is the event for you! Plenty of knowledgeable friendly people to help as well. Ever wonder what your car runs in the 1/4? Here's your chance. Who wants to have some fun???

That's crazy how you know the hours you have to work well over a month in advance. Not that you have to work that day, but that you know you're on the clock for 12 hours.

Yeah I wasn't expecting to have a long distance big church event scheduled during the mid afternoon.

That's crazy how you know the hours you have to work well over a month in advance. Not that you have to work that day, but that you know you're on the clock for 12 hours.

I know that you are messing with me but I had told blackbenzz that I would most likely be able to do a Friday morning and early afternoon. Right before my post I double checked my schedule to confirm if I was going to keep to my plan and that is when I realized.

Probably doing my inspection and prep for going to the dragstrip the 15th. Why, do you want to come over and lend a hand?

I just got a 67 Coronet with a 440 that I'm going to set up to be a drag car. Wonder what it will do, tempting. Trying to get into the 10s eventually

If I can get off work. I expect it to run mid to high 14s in its current trim. Would be nice to have a solid baseline. Should be making only 250hp 400tq currently with 2.91 rear gears.

As in general alignment specs, shock valving, springs rates. Nothing too specific just what works and doesn't in general. Everything I've done before has been for autox or track and seems counter intuitive in a drag car.

You want soft rear so it squats. Not a lot of negative camber in the rear either as you want as much contact patch as possible. Some do positive camber so that when it squats it's at zero

Do you expect the front end to come off the ground?

Not if its a 14 second car

Thanks, nothing I can do in the rear in regards to camber as it's a solid axle. I guess soft rear also means shocks that compress easily for better weight transfer and easier to extend fronts.

Correct on the suspension. Now if it's a dedicated drag car things change but we are talking sub 8 second territory. You don't want the fronts in the air and you get sensors that cut power and keep the front tires about an inch off the ground. I've seen my friends viper go down the track with the front tire barely touching the ground through the process. You obviously can't steer it that way and that's when suspension geometry becomes absolutely critical

Honestly curious as to how one launches a ZF auto; it cant be as simple as "green means go, stomp on gas" right?

Hold down brake hold down gas let go of brake it squats and gives you a few seconds to let go of the brake. At least I know al the Q's do it


Don't forget, slow... ZF comes in the RS6 and RS7! That means we basically drive RS6's!!!!!!!

A google search has revealed that however I'd rather experience at least once before hand lol! It said something like it needs to be in Dynamic and sport/manual mode and the rest is basic, hold brake pedal, press gas it revs up to 5k rpms, release brake and enjoy sub 3 sec 0-60 times
