    Help, have haze after polishing

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
2002 brilliant black a4, repainted this winter and clear coated

I've been using the Griots 6" polisher and all the uber pads to remove swirls.

Currently using meguires fine cut cleaner and the Uber green pad, the paint is looking dullish, when I shine an led light on it it looks hazy, not deep black.

Should I go over it again with the fine cut cleaner and the Uber blue pad?

I have the meguires "9 swirl remover 2.0 that I was going to use with the blue pad, but I haven't tried it yet.

Is the green pad too abrasive for fine cut cleaner?

Perhaps I'm using too much product or not working it long enough? I do at least 3 passes, maybe I should try working in smaller areas than a whole door at once

    Learning curve here;)

Meg's fine cut is great but it's not a fine enough polish to leave the surface perfectly haze free, especially on Brilliant Black. I use a Flex System with LC Pads not uber but the Green should be okay. Swirl X is only like 2 steps lower and still part of the Medium Polish category. Move to something in the fine polish lineup.

Considering it's a re-spray not factory, 3M's Ultra Fine Machine Polish would be great. If you want an All in One HDSpeed will finish very very well too. HDPolish is their stand alone if you want just a polish. Of course Menzerna 3500/3800 would work well too.

Reduced buffer speed to 4, and used the fine cut cleaner with a blue pad and then swirl remover with blue pad at speed 3-3.5 and it made a dramatic difference, now I just have to battle scratches from wiping with micro fiber towels

Micro marring my not be from your MF towels (unless you are using the same you use on the lower 1/2 of your vehicle...god forbid if using the same ones you used on your wheels) jk...
Micro marring my be coming form your pad selection and compound selection - to abrasive of pad + product will cause these fine swirls/marring

I keep a chart ref table up like this:

Also look at a good finishing polish - I use Menzerna SF

Used mecguiars fine cut cleaner with Uber blue pad, then followed with mecguiats swirl remover with fresh blue Uber pad, then black pad and some off the shelf black magic black car wax I had sitting around. I'd like to get a better wax/sealant.
All in all it looks really good in direct sunlight from 1 foot away.

Also debating on new compound/polish that works well with the Griots garage 6" orbital, and not the happiest with how well the Velcro on back of the Uber pads sticks to the backing plate, I curse a lot when a pad goes flying away, learned to buy extra pads

I'll keep coming back to polish then nano coating.

If you prefer a regular wax or sealant, I'd put a nice coat of Poor Boys Black Hole or Chem. Guys Blacklight on to fill in remaining imperfections and top with any of the following: HD Poxy, Collinite 476 for durability or Finish Care 1000P for summer heat / sun resistance.

Here's an example of Blacklight and some Collinite:

Happy to help and anytime. I make it up to Michigan quite a bit too. Would be interested if you're in the burbs of Detroit as perhaps we can pull together a meet/greet with some Audi Owners when I'm in town next.

Coating wise, the reason I strong suggest it as the results are truly even more rediculous. Here's a shot of the S4 and our 10yr old 108k mile minivan. The video below is of the van after a month of it's first coating. I cleaned it up and put a second layer on it this weekend to get her all prepared for fall and winter. Needless to say dirt has a hard time sticking to it and drying either vehicle can be done with a single 16x16 MF Towel and even then I could probably dry both with one towel.

How about post some pics of what you are seeing. That will help in determining the course of action to take.
