    Hey guys,

I have an engine noise that seems to wind-up and down with engine revs. It's a metallic rattling noise that seems to come from the right front of the engine (it seems easier to hear in that area). The car has about 98,000 miles on it and is well-maintained. This is a 2007 Audi S6 (C6) with the 5.2L V10 engine. If anyone has any idea, from listening to the sound, what it (most likely) is, I would love to hear your opinion! Thanks!

Please check out the YouTube video above to see and hear the engine. Let me know if you have any questions.

    Hi Nizmo,

The guy at the audi dealership I talked to said he thought it was something to do with the manifold also (just from the sound).

Is there an easy way for me to check into that? Is it something I can fix myself without a lift? Also, can I still drive it? I think I've been driving with it for a while (2 months, at least). I don't hear anything in the car, so I didn't notice it until a friend pointed the noise out while I was revving it for him with the hood open.

$1900 at the dealer, or diy?

Thanks for taking the time to help!!

    Paul,

With my vehicle, I was alarmed as I thought it was a cam chain noise, our chains are in the rear of the engine. Sounded metal on metal, same as yours.

-The cost of the Intake Manifold is $1900 Dealer cost, not for the service to replace it also. Mine was done under warranty.

-You can indeed drive it, but will be reduced power, CEL, poor gas mileage..

-You wont need a lift for the repair if DIY, actually pretty easy, also allows you to clean the valves while doing the IM. Win Win.

*Warning, there is no repair to make other than replacing the manifold entirely.
